Description

CONTAINER Filed Oct. 18, 1937 Patented Apr. 11, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CONTAINER Felix Benedetti, Garfield, N. J. Application October 18, 1937, Serial No. 169,739
1 Claim.
The invention relatesto a container and more especially to a paper container for liquids such as milk, cream or the like.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a container of this character, wherein one side wall is built with an inspection window so that it can be readily determined the contents within the container, the body of the container being preferably made from fibrous material such as paper while the window is made from a transparent strip and of a material not injurious to the contents of such container.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a container of this character, wherein the contents can be poured therefrom and such contents held so that it can be stored in a refrigerator or other place of storage andinspection can-readily be had of the contentsfor ascertaining the quantity or the'characterth'ereof. A further object of the invention is the provision of a container of this character, which is simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and eflicient in operation, light in its structural make-up yet strong, durable and inexpensive to manufacture. With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying, drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a container constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a horizontal or transverse sectional view thereof.
Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing. I
.Referring to the drawing in detail, A' designates generally a container built in accordance 5 with the invention andcomprises a body 5 made fromllbrous material, such as relatively still paper, out and folded from asheet form or blank providing opposite side walls 6 and foldable end flaps I, respectively, the latter being with the overlapped portions. that is to say, by visibility through the window,
foldable one upon the other and are sealed adhesively in any desirable manner, being preferable that the'interior and exterior surfaces of the body he wax coated to render the said body liquidproof. One side wall 6 of the body 5 5 is built with folded overlapping portions 8 and 9, respectively, these being adhesively joined with each other at the overlaps thereof and one. of these portions is cut into at H] to provide a window or sight opening which is coextensive with 10 a greater portionof the length of the container and such window being sealed by the use of a transparent strip ll so that visibility may be had from without to within the container. The transparent strip H is sealed marginally about 15 the opening or cutaway portion l0 creating the window by an innermost framing piece I I joined In this manner,
a person can ascertain the quantity of the con 20 tents of the container A and also the characterthereof, as, for example, milk and cream held within said container.
The foldable ends 1 effect a plurality of plies of material at opposite ends of the container A 25 and one end of the latter is cut into to provide a pouring opening l2 for accommodating a closure cap I3 being in-struck at M for the counter-: seating of this cap within the opening l2. The cap is hingedly riveted or otherwise fastened at 80 IE to the body 5 and carries a pull tab it. On the opening 'of the cap l3 the contents of the container A can be readily poured or dispensed and on the closing of such cap l3 the opening l2 will be sealed thereby preserving the contents 35 I of such container.
What is claimed is:
A container of the character described constructed of a folded blank having one side wall providing'flaps folded one upon the other in 40 overlapped relation to each other, one of said flaps in overlapped relation being cut away for the major extent of the length thereof and providing an elongated sight opening, and a transparent panel inside with relation to. the said flaps for covering the sight opening and being sealed with the flaps which are sealed together at the overlaps thereof.
