Description

April 1939- B D. JERABEK- HOISTING APPARATUS Filed June 1, 1938 Ben =/e ra 56% A fiorneys Patented Apr. 11 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE My invention relates to improvements in hoisting apparatus for use by linesmen in lifting heavy transformers for installation on poles, supporting electric conductor wires.
lTheobiect of the invention is to provide apparatus of the character set forth which may be quickly and securelyattached to a pole at any desired height, or, readily detached therefrom,
. ing sleeves 4 providing for the attachment to the illustrated conand which is simple in construction and therefore inexpensive to manufacture, light in weight, and readily portable.
With the foregoing and other objects in vie as will presently appear, the invention resides in the combinations of parts and features of construction illustrated in theaccompanying drawing, set forth in detail in the succeeding description,.-and defined in the claim appended hereto.
In the drawing, the single figure thereof is a perspective view of apparatus constructed in accordance with my invention, and illustrating, the manner in which the same is attached to a pole and detached therefrom.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, the
apparatus of my invention comprises a crane 1 preferably of tubular construction and including a straight shank 2 and a laterally extending upper end 3 equipped with one or more eyelet carrycrane of the usual hoisting tackle ventionally at 5.
The crane l is adapted to be attached to a pole,
represented at 6 by dot. and dashrlines, in upright position and by means of a pair of upper and lower rectangular spur plates 1 and 8 having corner spurs 9 extending rearwardly therefrom to bite into the pole 6, each plate I, 8, being provided on the front face thereof with a sleeve III in which the shank 2 of the crane is rotatably mounted for swinging-movement of the end 3 thereof laterally. Relative endwise movement of the sleeves l0 and shank 2 is prevented by a pair of set collars II on said shank one under the upper sleeve l0 and theother over the lower sleeve, and a similar set collar I2 on the lower end of said shank.
The spur plates 1 and 8 are adapted to be clamped to the pole 6 by means of the following. Each plate 1, 8, has pivoted thereto, as at 13, adjacent to one side edge thereof a hook I for the attachment thereto of a link chain l5. Each chain 15 is adapted to be drawn taut around the pole 6 through the medium of a hand lever I 6 pivoted at one end, as at I 1, on the side of the related plates opposite that on which the hook H is pivoted, for lateral'swinging movement and to which the appropriate chain is connected by means of a pair of links l8 pivoted to the lever.
as at l9 and having a bolt 20 extending therethrough and through a link in the chain. The
so that the pivots I1 thereof may be swung past a dead center position relative to the pivots of the 'levers I6 by swinging movement of said levers into I0 and plates '1 and 8, the pivots IQ of the links l8 may be swunginto a similar position on the opposite sides of the pivots I! of said levers and the chains l 5 loosened as will be clear. After the chains l5 are loosened they may be detached from" the hooks I4 thereby detaching the apparatus from the pole 6.
By removing the set collar l2 from the shank 2 the lower spur plate 8 together with the lever l6, links l8, chain l5, and hook ll carried thereby may be removed ordetached from said shank and by then removing the set collars l l and I 0 the upper spur plate 1 together with the parts carried thereby may be similarly detached or removed. Thus, it will be seen, that the apparatus may be disassembled in short time for packing or transporting as desired.
The foregoing will, it is believed, sufllce to impart a clear understanding of the invention without further explanation.
. Manifestly, the inventionfas described, is susceptible of modifications without departing from the inventive concept and right is herein reserved to such modifications as fall within the scope of the subjoined claim.
What I claim is:
Hoisting apparatus for attachment to the side of a pole comprising a crane having-a straight shank and alaterally extending upper end, and means to attach said shank to said pole in upright position comprising a pair of upper and lower spur carrying plates on which said shank is rotatably mounted, a pair of chains connected to one side of said plates, respectively, 'to be trained links I! are pivoted to their respective levers l6 around said pole, and manipulative means for drawing each chain taut, against the pole comprising a hand lever pivoted onteach plate and having limited swinging movement inwardly to- I ward the plate, a pair of links pivoted to each hand lever and connected to the related chains, each pair of links in the limit of'movement of the related lever being swung past a dead center position relative to the pivot of the lever, each plate together with the chain, lever and links related thereto being detachable from the shank as aunit.
