This invention relates to improvements in postal coin carriers designed particularly to be embodied in and distributed with a printed publication as a means of circulation.

An obj ect of the invention is to provide a postal coin carrier in dual form suited to be stapled into place between the leaves of a circulating medium such as a magazine or other printed publication, and so formed that either one or the other o-f the dual coin-carrying members may be readily detached from the magazine without detachment or disturbance of the other member.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the following description.

An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 is a front face view of a coin carrier in dual form, partially broken away, the front faces of said members having displayed thereon addresses indicating the destinations where postal delivery is intended to be made;

Fig. 2 is a view of the reverse or back face of the dual coin carriers having displayed on each member advertising matter and a blank form to be filled out with the name and address of a respondent; and

Fig. 3 is a plan View of an open magazine or circulating medium of the usual type in which is incorporated therewith, between the leaves thereof, a dual coin carrier of the type shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a portion of the leaves of theA magazine being cut away to expose to View portions of the coin carriers.

The illustrative embodiment of the invention consists of a paper or cardboard structure formed of a back sheet 5 and'two front sheets 6 and 'I that overlie the back sheet. The marginal edges of the front sheets are permanently attached to the back sheet by any suitable securing means, such as paste indicated by 8, those portions of said front sheets that extend between the surrounding pasted margins of said front sheets being unsecured and free from adhesion with said back sheet.

6 and 1 has made therein an elongated slit 9 to permit insertion of a coin (not shown) therethrough into place between the back sheet and corresponding front sheet so that the coin, after being so inserted, is concealed and held between the front and back sheets. Also, each front sheet has printed thereon indicia I0 coincident with the corresponding slit 9 designating the proper location for placing a postage stamp (not shown) by which the slit is sealed after insertion of the coin.

6 and 1 are relatively spaced apart so there is left exposed therebetween a central portion I2 of the back sheet 5, and said central portion adjacent each of the inner marginal edges II of 5 the front sheets is scored or has made therein a corresponding series of perforations I3 so that the back sheet may be severed readily along either of the scores or along the lines of the perforations, whereupon the severed portion together with the corresponding front sheet constitutes an individual postal coin carrier I4 or I5 as the case may be.

In utilizing the invention there is printed, preferably on the

front sheets

6 and 1, pre-addressed indicia indicative of where postal delivery of the coin carriers are to be made, and upon those portions of the back sheet that underlie the front sheets and form parts of the corresponding coin carriers is displayed printed matter including forms for inserting the names and addresses of respondents before posting the coin carriers.

The dual coin carriers, thus prepared and while separably connected together by the middle portion I2 of the back sheet, are placed between the leaves I6 and I1 of a publication I8 as said leaves are assembled and before the leaves are stapled together or folded. The form constituted of the dual coin carriers and the connection I2 is positioned between the leaves so that the connecting portion I2 registers with the line I9 upon which the magazine leaves are to be folded, and when the staples 29 are applied in the usual manner to bind the leaves of the magazine together, at least one of the staples passes through the middle portion I2 of the back sheet 5 at a point between the scores or series of perforations I3. When the magazine is finally folded for distribution the coin carriers I4 and I5 are held respectively between corresponding pages of the publication where they are readily discoverable upon perusal. Should any one desire to respond to the offering displayed on the coin carriers, facility is afforded the respondent in so doing as it is only necessary to detach the selected coin carrier I 4 or I5 by tearing it loose from the connecting portion I2 of the back sheet, ll out the printed form with the name and address of the respondent, insert the coin required for payment through the slit 9, seal the slit with a proper postage stamp 50 and then deposit the coin carrier in the mail.

By providing separate scores of perforated tear lines for the dual coin carriers and securing the form between the leaves of the publication in the manner set forth, both of the coin carriers are retained in their respective places between the adjacent pages of the publication until separately severed from the connecting portion I2. Removal of one of the coin carriers is effected by severing it from the middle portion i2 along its individual tear line so that the other coincarrier is left intact and in place between the pages where originally installed and subject to removal when required for use.

While there ,is herein set forth a particular manner of forming the two coin carriers with a connection therebetween so that the middle portion of the back sheet constitutes the connection the two coin carriers may readily be linked together by any other suitable means from which they may be severally and readily detached. Therefore, I do not conne my invention to the particular example herein lset forth.

What I claim is:

A device of the character described constituted of a structure formed of a single back sheet and two front sheets that overlap said back sheet and are secured along their marginal portions thereto', each front sheet having an elongated slit, the inner ends oi' said front sheets being spaced apart to leave exposed therebetween a middle portion of said back sheet, said middle portion having two parallel spaced apart tear-lines located respectively adjacent the inner ends of the corresponding front sheets, so that when said device is secured between the leaves of a publication with its middle portion alined with and secured in the folds of the leavesl of said publication, either one of the other of said front sheets together with the part of the back sheet attached thereto is removable from said middle portion without aiecting the other front sheet and corresponding back sheet portion.
