Application December 2, 1937, Serial No. 177,733 i 2 Claims. (Cl. 211-135) This invention relates to animproved joint conupright, a clamp screw 6 being provided to clamp struction for rack assemblies, and more particuthe bracket at the desired vertical position on larly to the arrangement yof a supporting bracket the upright. The braeket 4 preferably iS provided and of a, Cooperating shelf which is associated With a Vertical Wall 1 Which is disposed Substan- 5 t with the bracket, tially tangentially to the opening 5,' and which is 5 The present invention is particularly suitable provided with a substantially vertical inner surfor employment in self-supporting, knock-down face 8. In practice. the bracket 4 may be a caststructures having separable joints, such as metal ing and the Wall 8 may have a Slight downward meat racks and other racks designed for heavy and inward inclination. The bracket iS 2.150 DIO- 10 loads where rigidity and prevention ofv play bevided with a second substantially vertical sur- 10 tween the parts are important requisites. face I0 TlliS Sli-rface may alSO have a Slight In accordance with this invention, an improved inclination as shown. Between the surfacesl 8 and bracket is provided, which is adapted to be Sel0 a horizontal web l5 is provided at the lower cured to an upright and which provides a vertical part 0f the bracket. and an integral boss or flange wall extending substantially tangentiaily to an I9 extends upwardly from the Web, the ends of 15 opening through which the upright may be eX.. this ange being arranged to cooperate with the tend, The bracket also is provided with a second surfaces 8 and I0 in defining narrow vertical slots. substantially vertical surface extending at right Preferably the ends Of the flange I9 llaVe a Slight angles to the vertical wan, there being a noridownward inclination, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4,

In' accordance with this invention, a bracket 4 It is evident that the present invention affords may be provided with an opening 5 to receive the a simple and inexpensive arrangement permitting 55 the firm engagement of a metal shelf with a supporting bracket in a knack-down construction of the type described.
I claim:
1. Bracket comprising a metal member having an opening through which a cylindrical upright may extend and having a vertical wall substantially tangential to said opening, the metal of the bracket affording a substantially vertical surface extending inwardly at right angles to the inner surface of the Wall, there being a horizontal web extending from said vertical surface to the wall, and an arcuate ange extending upwardly from, said web but in spaced relation to the wall and surface to cooperate therewith in dening similar vertical slots extending for a substantial fraction of the height of the bracket, said slots being gradually tapered so that they are wider at their upper parts than at their lower parts.
` ing metal flanges extending at right angles to each other and received in said slots, each of said flanges being provided with indents yieldably tted into said slots with a Wedge-like action.
