Application July 25, 1936, Serial No. 92,649
1 Claim.
This invention appertains to new and'useful improvements in looks, and more particularly to a fastener of the spring projected bolt type.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a lock structure for closures whereby means is provided for always maintaining properly aligned the lock keeper with the bolt-carrying section of the lock.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 represents the front elevational view of the lock installed on a closure.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a front elevational View of the boltcarr'ying section of the lock.
Figure 4 is a section on line 44 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a front elevational view of the keeper section of the lock.
Figure 6 is an irregular sectional view on line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Referring to the drawing, wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 generally refers to the bolt-carrying section of the look, while numeral 6 generally refers to the keeper section of the lock. The section 5 of the lock consists of the casing 1 open at its back side and provided with a beveled bolt member 8 slidably disposed through one side wall thereof. The bolt 8 is provided with a stem 9 which projects through the casing l and through the opposite side thereof and this stem is provided with an outwardly disposed finger grip I0. A coiled compressible spring II is provided in the casing l and associated with the stem 9 so' as to normally maintain the bolt 8 projected to the position shown in Figure 4.
The end walls I2 of the casing l are provided with hook-like extensions IZprojecting beyond the bolt protruding side of the casing I so as to engage with the struck-out and outstanding lugs 14-44 on the end walls of the keeper case l5, which is open at its back side and at its side opposed to the section 5 so as to receive the bolt 3. The case 'I is provided with side flanges I 6 through which screws I! can be disposed for securing the section 5 in place on the closure, while flanges l8 are provided on the keeper 6 and apertured to receive screws [9 whereby the keeper can be secured in the proper position on the closure.
The function of the extensions I3 is to always engage the ears or lugs I4 on the keeper to keep the sections 56 properly aligned so that the sections of the lock do not become ofiset in relation to each other. 7
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that various changes in the shape, size, and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
Aligning means for keeper and bolt carrying cases of a latch structure wherein the bolt carrying case is provided with a pair of hook members; said keeper case having ears struck out from its upper and lower ends, said ears being obliquely disposed outwardly and then in spaced parallel relation with respect to the ends of the keeper case, the spaced parallel portions serving to guide the hook members inwardly to engage the oblique portions of the ears.
JOHN GERGELY.
