Description

V A. KEISER. Fenders for Harvester-Rakes.
Pa tented April 22, I879.
IINI'IED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREW KEISER, OF PROPHETSTOWN, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO HENRY It. KENT, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN FENDERS FOR HARVESTER-RAKES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 214,570, dated April 22, 1879; application filed September 23, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ANDREW Knrsne, of Prophetstown, in the county of Whiteside and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fenders for Harvester-Rakes; and 1 do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others killed in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 1s a perspective view of a section I of the improved fender attached to one of the In the accompanying drawings similar let ters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
The fender is designed to be attached to the arms of the revolving rake-heads, as used on reaping machines, for the purposes of preventing the straw from being wound up in the hinges of the rake, and to prevent it from fallin g into the gearing.
Arepresents one of the sections of the fender, which should be attached to the rake-arm B,
immediately above the rake-11in ge. A slot, G, in the section Aencircles the rake-arm B, andis closed by the removable piece D, the ends of which are bent and inserted into small slots a a, punched or otherwise made in the section A, as shown.
A screw-bolt, E, passed through the arms F F rising from the section A and through the rake-arm B, secures the section A to the rake-arm B. The ciicircling slot 0 prevents lateral motion of the section A;
A section, A, is secured to each rake-arm B, and when said arms revolve the sections A describe a circle around the rake-head, and prevent straw, weeds, or vines from winding around the rake-hinges or from falling into the gearing.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the curved plate or section A, having the slot 0, removable piece D, and arms F F, with the rake-arm B, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A fender for revolving harvester-rakes, consisting of removable sections secured to the rake-arms above the rake-hinges, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ANDRE W KEISER.
