IMPROVEMENT IN BOOT AND SHOE HEEL BURNISHERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 214,430, dated April 15, 1879; application filed February 7, 1879.

The object of this invention is to improve the construction of the burnisher known as the Tapley Heel Burnisher, so as to make it more reliable in use.
The invention consists in the combination of a spring with the holder and with the burnisher, pivoted in a recess in the said holder by a bolt or pin, the spring being arranged in opposite recesses of the holder and burnisher, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the holder, the forward side of the forward end of which is recessed to receive the burnisher B. The burnisher B is pivoted to the holder A by a bolt or pin, 0, which passes through it and through the I flanges of the said holder A, so that the said burnisher may adjust itself to the form of the heel being operated upon.
D is a spiral spring interposed between the burnisher B and the holder A, as shown in Fig. 2, to hold the said burnisher better to its work, and make it more practical and effective. The spring D is securely fastened at one end in a recess of holder A, and at the other end in a corresponding recess of the burnisher, so that the latter may readily adjust itself.
I am aware that springs have been attached to the frame of heel-burnishers but my spring is in addition to and unconnected with these, being intended to adapt the burnisher to work on concave or French heels.
What I claim as new and of my invention 1s The combination, with the holder A, of the pivoted burnisher B and the spring 1), the latter held in place by means of recesses in the inner faces of the holder and burnisher, as and for the purpose specified.
