My present invention relates toimproved combination brooch and clip assemblage-i More particularly, my invention is directed to a brooch assemblage comprising a brooch base member provided with pin or equivalent means for securement to a garment, a set, usually a pair, of clip members, each comprising a clip back member upon whichthe ornamental design is mounted, a clip base member hingedly related to its associated clip back member, said clip base member being constructed and'arranged for separable assembly with the brooch base member.
Embodiments of my invention may be utilized as a brooch assemblage, that is, the clip members assembled with the brooch base member as a unit. When desired, each clip member may be disasseciated from the brooch base member and worn individually or as a set in desired relation to and upon a garment, each clip member by reason of its hingedly related parts affording individual self-securement.
Preferably, the assemblage of each clip member with the brooch base member is had by self locking means.
A particular feature of my present invention resides in a brooch base member constituted, in essentials, of a bar-like element or part, upon which the securing pin is usually mounted, a part or element extending transversely to such bar-like element or part, and extensions having free ends, usually tapered, for receiving andretaining the respective clip members. The brooch base member usually additionally includes a terminal element or part of the stated transversely projecting element or part.
Further features and objects of the invention will be more fully understood from the following detail description and the accompanying drawing, in which f Fig. l is a plan view of a combination brooch and clip assemblage embodying my invention.

A preferred embodiment of my invention, asv
illustrated in the drawing, comprises two clip members l0, H. The ornamental design parts Illa, Ha, of the respective clip members may be as desired in configuration, contour, metal or other material, etc.
Each clip member comprises such ornamental design part which is secured at its back to a clip 5 base member l2, see Figs. 2, 3 and 4; such clip base member comprises means, shown as an extension 12a, to which its ornamental design part, [0a or Ha; is secured, as by solder, welding, etc. Each clip base member further comprises piv- 1o otal means, shown as a pair of pivot hinge ears l2b, referred to more fully hereinafter. Each clip base part further comprises an apertured member 120, shown in the form of an apertured lug extending transversely to the body of the clip 15 base member.
Associated with such clip means is a clip back member i3 comprising, in essentials, a body portion carrying suitable hinge means, shown as a pair of hinge ears l3a, arranged in co-action with a hinge pin He, or equivalent, for hinged relation with itsassociated clip base member l2. Each clip back member comprises further resilient means'associated with its clip base member for biasing, alternately to fully open or fully closed position, the clip base member and the clip back member relative to one another. Such resilient means, advantageously, is afforded by blanking a portion of the body of the clip back member, desirably of spring, i. e. tempered metal, to form a tongue, see 1319, as by lines of severing indicated at 130, M30. As appears from the showing of Fig. 4, such resilient means additionally imparts resiliency to the respective hinge pin ears I36, thus enabling the ears We to be flexed when associating and disassociating the clip base member l3 with the clip back member l2.
Like parts of the clip member I l corresponding to the stated parts of the clip member H) are designated by like reference characters.
The aforesaid or equivalent individual clip members are unitarily associated as a brooch assemblage through the intermediation of a brooch base member. Preferably, the brooch base member, includes, inter alia a bar-like part or element Hie upon which is usually mounted, a pivoted pin It, usually provided with a safety catch Ma, for securement of the brooch assemblage upon the wearers garment.
A preferred form of my brooch base member l5, as illustrated in the drawing, see Fig. 5 in particular, and also Figs. 2 and 3, comprises, inter alia, means, shown as integral extensions [5a, arranged for mechanical association with the respective clip base members. The extensions l5a Preferably, the association of each clip mem her with the brooch base member is had by selflocking relation, advantageously by utilizing its resilient means lSb, or equivalent, of its associated clip member, and the further provision of a locking member, see Kid, in the form of a lug carried by and projecting from the base of the clip back member, conventiently in the form of a tongue bent back from the material of the body of the ciip back member, adapted to be received and retained in an aperture i511. The terminal portion, see 550, of each extension 55a, may be tapered, as shown, to facilitate assembly and disassembly of the clip member relative to the brooch base member.

As above, or equivalently, coordinated, the resulting unitary assemblage may be worn as a brooch.
When either or both clip members is or are dis-associated from the assemblage, it or they may be worn individually or as a set.
In the individual use of each clip member, its
resilient means is employed to retain the clip member in position upon the garment, its locking lug 83d being pointed, i. e., tapered, at its free end to serve in coordination with its resilient means for enhanced retention in the material of the garment.
Each clip member is disassociated, i. e. detached from the brooch base member by partial movement of its clip back member relative to its clip base member, thus removing the locking lug 0 said or equivalent formation. By reason of the relative hardness of the material of the clip base member, its body portion, 1. e. extension l2a withstands the frictional engagement of the extension lfia in the movement ensuing upon associating and disassociating each clip member relative to the brooch base member.
As appears from the construction of the individual clip members and the associating brooch base member, the respective parts are attained largely by stamping operation, and requiring practically no manual assembling, finishing or the like, excepting naturally the securement of the ornamental design part of the respective clip members relative to their associated parts.
I claim:
1. A pair of brooch-forming clips each consisting of an ornamental front jaw and a back jaw spring-hinged thereto, each front jaw being provided adjacent its hinged connection to the back jaw with a lug apertured to serve as a guide, and a pin-plate shaped to fit the apertures of the lugs and slidable through the same to bring the ends thereof into self-locking engagement with the back jaws and secure the clips in assembled relation.
2. A pair of brooch-forming clips each consisting of an ornamental front jaw and a back jaw spring-hinged thereto, each front jaw being provided with a. lug which forms part of the spring hinge connection between the jaws and is apertured to serve as a guide, and a pin-plate shaped to fit the apertures of the lugs and slidable through the same to position the ends thereof for interlocking engagement with the back jaws to secure the clips in assembled relation,
3. A pair of brooch-forming clips each consisting of an ornamental front jaw and a back jaw spring-hinged thereto, a guide on the front jaw of each clip adjacent its hinged connection with the back jaw, a locking element carried by the free end of each back jaw, and a pin-plate slidable in and directed by the guides to engage and automatically interlock with the locking elements of the back jaws to secure the clips end to end in assembled relation.
4. A pair of brooch-forming clips, as defined in claim 3, in which the guide on the front jaw of each clip is an upturned lug apertured to conform closely to the cross sectional dimensions of that portion of the pin-plate which is slidable therein.
5. A pair of brooch-forming clips, as defined in claim 3, in which the pin-plate has an angular extension disposed transversely of the clips and overlapping their meeting ends,
6. A pair of brooch-forming clips, as defined in claim 3, in which the pin-plate has an angular extension disposed transversely of the clips in overlapping relation with their meeting ends and is shaped to fit closely between and partially around the hinged connection between the jaws of the clips.
7. A pair of brooch-forming clips, as defined in claim 3, in which the pin-plate is formed with three substantially parallel members of varying length connected by a cross member positioned to overlap the meeting ends of the clips.
8. A pair of brooch-forming clips as defined in claim 3, in which the pin-plate is provided with cam-like formations adapted to ride under and raise the locking elements of the back jaws for passage of the pin-plate into position to be engaged and locked by said elements.
9. A pair of brooch-forming clips as defined in claim 3, in which the pin-plate is apertured and provided with terminal cam-like formations adapted to raise the back jaws for passage of the pin-plate into position to present its apertures for engagement by the locking elements of the back jaws.
