Description

Dec. 13, 1938. R. R. RUTH 2,140,249
SHIRT WITH DETACHABLE COLLAR Fil'ed Feb. 19, 1936 "a"? ru -1 z \Fj M2502- FUDOLF 3/0/0794 Ear/v Patented Dec. 13, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application February 19, 1936, Serial No. 64,774 In Finland February 25, 1935 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a new method and a new arrangement for fastening loose collars and loose cuffs to the shirt and to products provided with arrangements according to this new invention.
The object of the invention is characterized by the fact, that the collar band of a loose collar and the shirt collar band are provided with holes placed one after another, through which holes a thin slip of some resilient material, e. g., metal, Celluloid, bone or the like, is threaded, alternating through two holes following each other in the shirt collar band and two holes following each other in the loose collar band whereby the slip fixes the collar onto its place. The holes may also be placed only in those cloth layers of the loose collar band and of the shirt collar band, which, when the collar is fastened ontothe shirt, abut on each other. Said holes may be substituted by links of suitable breadth sewn on the inside part of the loose collar band and on the outside part of the shirt collar band. This latter form of execution is particularly suitable for loose stand-up collars.
The invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is a view of the loose collar,
Figure 2 is a view of the shirt collar,
Figure 3 shows the fastening slip, which, when fixed, is behind the parts indicated by reference numerals l-l, and
Figure 4 shows a loose cuff fixed to a shirt sleeve according to the invention.
When using holes penetrating only the inner cloth layer of the loose collar band and the exterior cloth layer of the shirt collar band one may provide supporting seams extending lengthwise between the holes in the loose collar band and the shirt collar band respectively in such a manner that canals are formed there, through which the fastening slip is threaded.
The method according to the present invention can also be employed for fastening of loose cuffs to shirt sleeves.
In order to fix the fastening slip in its position, the slip ends can be turned back in a special bag provided in the loose collar band or in the shirt collar band.
Another method for obtaining the last mentioned purpose is to turn the ends of the fastening slip backward as to form hooks, as shown in Fig. 4, which prevent the slip put in its definite position from gliding out through the holes.
The method according to the present invention may also be used for the fixing of cuffs and collars on ladies dressings.
On the whole, the objects and advantages of the invention may be made available in a great variety of forms Without departing from the scope thereof, which is not limited to the details herein shown and described.
What I claim is:
In combination a shirt, a detachable collar, a thin flexible strip of resilient material, said collar and the neckband of said shirt being each provided with a plurality of holes spaced relative to one another in the longitudinal direction of the collar and penetrating only those cloth layers of the collar and of the neckband, which at fastening the collar onto the neckband overlap each other, the difierent plies in the collar and in the neckband of said shirt being connected by lines of stitching extending from one hole to the next thus forming spaced channels in the collar as well as in the neckband, so that the channels, when applying the collar onto the neckband, al-' ternate with one another throughout the length of the collar and the neckband, whereby said fastening strip is adapted to be alternately passed through said channels to fasten the collar to the shirt.
