UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM M. BLAIN, OF SALINAS, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAG-RUNNERS FOR HARNESS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 213,802, dated April 1, 1879; application filed February 27, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. BLAIN, of Salinas city, in the county of Monterey and State of California, have invented a new and Improved Gag-Runner for Harness, of which the following is a specification:
The invention relates to an improvement in the gag-runner for harness for which Letters Patent have heretofore been granted to me under date of November, 1876, and No. 184,325, and by which the same is readily and neatly connected to the brow-band loop and the headstraps of the harness.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the headgear of a harness, with my improved gag-runner shown as applied to the head of a horse. Fig. 2 is a detail side view of the gag-runner, with leather loop for the reins; and Figs. 3 and 4 are, respectively, a sectional top view and side view of a gag-runner with metallic loop.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawin gs, A represents the rein-loop of a gagrunner, which loop extends downward from the rosette B, and is either made of leather and secured to a wedge-shaped socket, or made of metal, in one piece with the Wider and flattened portion 0, as desired.
The flattened end portion 0 is arranged at right angles to the plane of the loop, and provided with a slot, to, that fits the brow-band loop I) of the rosette B, the rosette being so cured to the head-gear, and the gag-runner firmly retained thereon by the straddling head strap and brow-band, bearing on the slotted portion. The loop of the rosette carries the gag-runner, and holds the same in fixed position on the head-gear, forming a simple and neat attachment to the harness, so as to guide the reins in a superior manner to the bit.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A gag-runner for harness, consisting of a flattened and slotted portion, (J, adapted to receive the brow-band loop of a rosette, and of a runner loop, A, at right angles thereto, all substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination, with the brow-band of I a bridle, of a gag-runner adapted to receive in its slotted portion a rosette-loop for attachment to the bridle, all substantially as shown and described.
WM. M. BLAIN.
