The above cycle of operation may be reversed in order to transfer a stack of coils, with its major axis disposed in the vertical, to a position wherein its major axis is substantially in the horizontal, as is shown in Figure 5." In this case, the ram 5 is elevated to the vertical, as is shown in Figure 4, and the grapple i4 is permitted to rest a stack of coils thereabout on the platform 4. After the grapple has been removed, the ram may be lowered either by reversing the rotation of the crank shaft 1, or, more preferably, by permitting it to resume its rotary movement 180 until the ram with its load is disposed in the horizontal. Thereafter the hair-pin" hook may be employed to remove the stack to the desired place.
While I have shown and described a specific embodiment of my invention, I do not intend to be limited thereto, since many modifications may be made without departing from the scope of my invention as it is defined by the appended claims.
I claim: 7
1. A device for handling stacks of annular articles comprising a support, a pair of rains extending in substantial parallelism from said support,
arranged to rotate the crank arm substantially,
one-half the' number of degrees of are as that which the crank shaft is rotated.
2. A device for handling stacks of annular articles comprising a support, a platform pivoted a thereto, a bifurcated ram secured to said platform with its longitudinal axis substantially normal to the plane thereof, a lever for tilting said platform, a crankshaft for actuating said lever, the relation therebetween being that the latter is turned two degrees of are for every degree of are through which the former is rotated, and
, means on said platform adjacent the ram for providing marginal recesses between said platform and any load supported thereby.
