4 Claims. (01. 46-4218) The invention relates to the construction of models of truck assemblies for model railway cars. I
,It is-an object of the invention to produce 5 miniature or model railway equipment which will resemble withinuch fidelity the exterior appear ance of full-sized structures. The small scale to which thesemodels are reproduced and the cost entailed prohibits fastening of the parts in the 10 same manner as they are fastened in the'fullsized equipments. Therefore, construction must be provided for-the models which will be'relatively inexpensive but will cause the assemblies to have the same general appearance as the cor- 16 responding full-sized structures.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent as the following detailed description progresses, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, wherein- 20 Fig. I is a plan view of a model truck assembly for railway cars, which model truck assembly embodies the invention.

Referring to the drawing, in which a preferred embodiment of the invention is shown, reference characters 5 and 6 designate the end frames of a model or miniature truck assembly for minia- 35 ture railway cars, the end frames 5 and 6 being connected together at their centers by a bolster I. The end frames 5 and 6 are provided with suitable recesses 4 in their ends to receive the ends of shafts 8 and 9 which have car wheels 40 I mounted thereon.
The end frames and 6 and the bolster l are preferably cast from soft metal such as ordinary white metal, and are preferably cast to reproduce to scale the similar parts of full-sized structures.
45 Particular efforts are made to have the outer surfaces of the assembled model car truck appear to be true reproductions of the full-sized structures.

It will be noted tnatthe lugs I8 are provided with downwardly: extending slots through which the trunnions I5 project, the construction being such that the trunnions may rotate in the slots 20 and are 15 slidably mounted therein. As best illustrated in Fig. 4, each of the lugs I8 is provided at its upper end with outwardly extending beads or ribs 22 to permit the associated closure or fastening member I9 to be attached to the lug so as to preventan accidental removal of the bolster from the associated end frame. The closure or fastening members I9 are preferably formed from sheet metal which is sufiiciently elastic to permit the fastening members to be snapped on and off the lugs I8. It will be noted that each member I9 is formed with a lip or hook 23 at one end and with a lip or hook 24 at the other, which lip 24 is provided with an extension or finger piece 25 which may be grasped when it is desired to remove the member 29 from its lug I8. It is obvious that the lips or hooks 23 and 24 may be snapped on and off the beads 22.
As best shown in Figs. 3 and 4, there is sufficient space in the recesses or pockets IT to permit movement of the bolster l upwardly and downwardly with respect to the end frames 5 l and 6.
' When the apparatus shown in the drawing is to be assembled, it is only necessary to assemble 40 the wheels III with the shafts 8 and 9 and then assemble the shafts with the end frames 5 and 6,, after which the bolster may be dropped in place between the frames and the fastening or closure members I9 may be snapped in place. The structure is then assembled and may be attached to a miniature car. For this purpose, the bolster is provided with a, central bore 30 to receive a king pin (not shown).
While I have shown and described certain embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that it is capable of many modifications. Changes, therefore in the construction and arrangement may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as disclosed in the appended claims, in which it is my intention to claim all novelty inherent in my invention as broadly as possible, in view of the prior art.
I claim:
1. A truck assembly for use in the construction of models of railway cars and the like having in combination, axles, car wheels on said axles, a bolster having, trunnions at its ends and said trunnions being provided at their outer ends with disks, end frames holding the ends of said axles and being provided with recesses opening atthetop surfaces of said frames for said disks and of such size as to permit the disks to pass through the openings for assembly of the structure, and closure members removably secured across the upper faces of said recesses to prevent accidental displacement of said disks from said recesses whereby said bolster is secured movably between said 7 end frames.
- 2; A truck assembly for use in the construction of models of railway cars and the like having in combination, axles, car wheels on said axles, a bolster having trunnions at its ends, said trunnions, having enlarged, portions at their outer ends, end frames holding the ends of said axles, said end frames having recesses opening at the top surfaces ofsaid frames for said enlarged portions and having slots for rotatably and slidably journaling said trunnions, and closure members for said recesses to prevent accidental displacement of said enlarged portions from said recesses whereby said bolster is secured movably between said end frames.
3. A truck assembly for use in the construction of models of railway cars and the like having in combination, axles, car wheels on said axles, a bolster having trunnions at its ends and said trunnions being provided at their outer ends with disks, end frames holding the ends of said axles and being provided with recesses for said disks, and spring clips extending across above said disks for closing said recesses to prevent accidental displacement ofsaidenlargedportions from said recesses whereby said bolster is secured movably between said end frames, said spring clips being removably secured in position by means of hook portions engaging beads on said end frames.
