The fixture may be provided with aconvenience outlet and. one suchis shown in the drawings as arranged in the bottom end of'the shell, and, for
thispurpose, that end of the shell is provided with a solid portion 42 which is recessed to afford a pair of parallel jack blade slots 44 and for holding a pair-of contacts 46. :In vertical section, the portion=42 is approximately triangular, having a-transverse vertical face 48, a top face which is a continuation of the floor 23, and an oblique outerface lll out .of which .the slots 44 open and which is flat, for plug engagement. Each of the contacts 46 comprises a base (designatedas 46) and a blade portion 54 which is'turned at right angles to the base and'then in a reverse direction (Fig. 8). Each of said contacts is arranged with its base in a recess 52 and its blade portion in the adjacent slot, Fig. 5) and to the base is attached by solder 55 a lead wire 56. To hold the base against H upward 'movement, a V-shaped countersink 53 is formed in the outer wall of the recess 52 into which the end of the base projects. For holding the contacts in position in the slots, a cover 6110f stiff fibre board or other material, is mounted in the recess 5!] with its bottom edge in the angle formed by the meeting of the two walls of the recess, and when it is fastened'at its top edge to the shell by the screw 38, the bottom edge is locked. It will be observed that the screw 38 thereby performs two functions, namely, fasteningv the clamp 32 in addition to the cover.
The assembling of the fixture is a very simple matter. The lamp socket is inserted sidewlse *in the shell, the pull chain being dropped through the opening 33, and isslightly tilted to enter the end of the screw shell into the lamp opening l2, after which it is pushed against the curved end of the projecting portion. The clamp is then placed in position with one end in the floor recess and the other end engaging theshoulder inthe socket block. The contacts are next, inserted in place, the cover 60 adjusted and the screw 38 inserted inthe 'bore 4B and screwed into the clamp, thereby causing the free end of the clamp tobear down on the shoulder to lock the socket in place. the cover 60 to hold the contacts securely in operativeposition.
In use, the fixture is fastened to an outlet box 1 set inthe wall or other supporting surface, with its flange l3 in engagement with the said surface, and for thispurpose itis providedwith a circular opening 64; for-receiving a-headed bolt (not shown) for fastening the fixture to the cross bar of the outlet box. The lamp socket and the convenience outlet are connected to circuit carrying wires in the usual well-known manner.
After the fixture has been placed in position, an electric lamp 65 of any suitable form may be threaded into the screw shell of the socket- Since the socket fits within the projectingportion of the fixture with its screw shell'portion projectinginto the lamp opening, the clamping means serves to lock the socket in fixed position sothat the strains imposedby screwing a lamp into or out of the socket produce no movement thereof It will be observed that my invention provides.

In a device of the character: described, the combination of a hollow shell of insulating material comprising a base portion having an ;in-' terior, angular recess and a projecting socket holding portion provided with an opening, a lamp socket mounted in said projecting portion in register with said opening, a clamp having; one end engaging said lamp socket, a convenience out let formed in said base portion and comprising e a pair of contact chambers opening out said angular recess in said base, a pair of parallel jack with a blade portion positioned in the slot com- I municating with said chamber, an insulating cover in said angular recess-for closing said contact chambers and for holding said contacts therein, the lower edge of said cover projecting] into the angular portion of said recess and a screw mounted in said base for fastening said cover thereto and for fastening said 'clamp to lock said socket against movement.
3. In a device of the character described, the
combination of a hollow shell of insulating material comprising a base portion having an interior angular recess and a projecting socket holding portion provided with an opening and with a floor recess, a lamp socket mounted in said projecting portion in register with said opening, a right-angled clamp having one. end engaging said lamp socket and its otherend seated in said floor recess, a convenience outlet formed in said base portion and comprising a pair of contact chambers opening into said angular recess in said base, a pair of parallel jack blade slots opening out said shell from said chambers, a pair of contacts loosely mounted in said chamblade portion positioned in the slot communi eating with said chamber, an insulating cover mounted in said angular recess'for closing said contact chambers and for holding said'contacts therein, the lower edge of said cover projecting a screw mounted in said base for fastening said cover thereto and for fastening said clamp, said screw having its end threadedthrough the seat ed end of said clamp obliquely to force the other .end ofsaidplamp downwardly to lock said socket in fixed position.

A device of the character described comprising a hollow shell of insulating material having a projecting portion provided with an opening and a recess in its floor and having a thickened portion, a lamp socket mounted in said projecting portion in register with said opening, a clamp havingrone end mounted in said recess and its other end engaging said lamp socket, a pair of contact chambers formed in said thickened portion'of said shell, a pair of parallel jack blade slots opening outwardly from saidcontact chambers, a pair of contacts mounted in said chambers, each of said contacts being provided with a blade portion positioned in the slot communicating with said chamber, a cover mounted on the interior'face of said thickened portion for closing said contact chambers and for holding said contacts therein, and a screw for fastening said ing an insulating body having a hollow projecting portion provided with an opening, a lamp socket, including a lamp receiving screw shell, fitted and seated in said projecting portion with said screw -and itslother end engaging said lamp socket, a
