V'. VIZET. Plate Holder;
No. 213,264. Patented Mar. ",1879.

N4 PETE-R3, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER WASHKNGTON- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VICTOR VIZET, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLATE-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 213,264, dated March 11, 1879; application filed February 3, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VIcToR VIZET, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Plate- Holders, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and accurate description.
In the drawings, Figure 1, Arepresents my improved plate-holder complete.
Fi g. 2 represents the anchor-piece a.
Fig. 3 represents the thumb-screw O.
The object of my invention is to form an improved plate-holder.
I form my improved plate-holder A in an anchor-piece, a, consisting of onepiece of metal or other suitable material. One end of this anchor-piece a has a clutch, b, for holding the plate securely. At or near one end of the anchorpiece a a spring, a, is cut, to which is attachedtheringd for holding the plate straight. At the other end of the anchor-piece a is another ring, 0, for the purpose of adjusting the same. The anchor-piece is secured to the plate also by a peculiar thumb-screw, O, which is tightened or loosened, as desired.
In making the thumb-screws now commonly used, the thread is out completely around that portion of the thumb-screw on which the screwthread is out, while the head of the screw is milled, so as to allow the screw to be started easily.
In my improvement I stamp, press, or by other suitable means form a blank from a sheet of metal or other proper material, of such a shape that a screw-thread can be cut on a portion of it, and the other portion be used as the head or thumb-piece.
Instead of cutting the screw-thread completely around the portion of the blank which is to form the screw, I out only the edges of that portion of the blank 9 with the screwthread, and slightly twist the screw, while the oblong portion of the blank h forms the head or thumb-piece. (See Fig. 3.)
My improved thumb-screw thus does away with the necessity of milling the sides of the thumb-piece, as is usually done, while by stamping or pressing the blank, and then cutting a screw-thread on the edges only, an inexpensive and durable thumb-screw is produced.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 1 1. The improved plate-holder A, provided with the anchor-piece a, made in one piece of metal or other proper material.
2. The improved plate-holder A, provided with the anchor-piece a and clutch Z).
3. The improved plate-holder A, provided with the anchor-piece a, clutch b, and spring 0.
4. The improved plate-holder A, provided with the anchor-piece a, clutch I), and rings d and e.
5. The improved plate-holder A, provided with the anchor-piece a, clutch I), rings (1 and e, and spring 0.
6. The metallic thumb-screw 0, formed in one piece of metal with the thumb-piece h and screw g, in combination with the anchor-piece a of the plate-holder A, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 30th day of January, 1879.
VICTOR VIZET.
In presence of- Lotus W. FROST, GEO. A. BOYNTON.
