UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
MICHAEL GREENSPECHT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN CRlBBAGE-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 213,045, dated March 11, 1879; application filed January 23, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known thatI, MIoHAEL GREENsPEoHT, of the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cribbage-Box, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of my improved cribbage-box. Fig. 2 is an inverted view of the cover thereof. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the cribbage-box.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
This invention has for its object to produce a box for containing cards and other implements for the game of cribbage, and of which the removable cover shall constitute a gameboard when taken oi? the box, but not when on the box.
The invention consists in making the under side of the sliding cover a cribba-ge-board, by indenting or marking the same and-making holes therein. This will permit the use of the cover as a cribbage-board without interfering with its function as a cover for the box, and without exposing the marked surface to injury when the box is closed.
In the accompanying drawings, the letterA represents a..suitable quadrangular box, provided with one Ol lIlOlG partitions, a, for the purpose of separating playing-cards, markingpins, and the like, from the other contents of the box. B is the cover, made with projecting tongues b b at the edges, to fit grooves d d in the sides of the box, so that the cover will be entirely removable, but yet held secure on the box when the latter is closed. The under side of the removable cover has holes 6 e and grooves or marks ff, to adapt it for use as a cribbageboard when entirely taken off the box.
lprefer to make the cover of two thicknesses, g and h, of wood, the lower of which is wider than the upper, as it forms the tongues I), and in the lower of these thicknesses I form the holes 6 and marks f, as indicated. This construction'enables me to entirely perforate the lower thickness before it is glued to the upper, and to thereby facilitate the manufacture of the cribbage-board, it being essential that the upper thickness be not perforated, and the upper surface of the closed board not marked by any mark of the cribbageboard.
I claim The combination of the box A, having grooves d, with the removable cover B, havin g tongues b, and having the lower wider sur face provided with apertures and marks to constitute a cribbage-board, substantially as herein shown and described.
- MICHAEL GREEN SPEOHT.
