Description

H. M. COLLINS. Wall-Paper Exhibitor.
Patented Mar. 4. 1879,
WITNESSES INVENTOR M %1 9M] ATTORNEY N.PETERS, pnordlrmocmpnza, WASHINGTON. n cy Urrnn TATES PATENT FFICE.
HORACE M. COLLINS, OF STRYKER, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN WALL-PA PER EXHIBITORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 212,899, dated March 4, 1879; application filed November 20, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, H. M. COLLINS, of Stryker. in the county of Williams and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Wall-Paper Exhibitors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and ures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a perspective view of my improved wallpaper exhibitor, and Fi 2 is a vertical crosssection thereof.
This invention has relation to improvements in wall-paper exhibitors.
The object of the invention is to devise an exhibitor .wherein the body of the wall-paper and its border may be brought into proper position for comparison, aiid be thus accurately matched.
The nature of the invention will be fully amdcrstood from the following description,
and clearly'set forth in the claim.
In the annexed drawings, the letter A designates an upright frame of rectangular forin, and composed of two side pieces, a, united at top and bottom by cross-pieces b I), respectively. This frame is supported by a suitable base, B, and is usually of wood.
0 0 indicate two cylinders, rotating in bearings in the uprights a, and arranged at a suitable distance apart, usually about eighteen inches from center to center. These cylinders are of the following construction They are'coi'nposed each of two heads, 0, connected together by a suitable number of cylindrical rods. 4, and having a metallic rod, d, axially arranged and projecting through the heads to form the journals d These rods 61 are arranged somewhat inside of the plrimeter of the heads, so as to form a retainer-flange, c, at each end of the said cylinders.
D indicates a backing-cloth, permanently secured to the cylinder 0 at one end, and to the cylinder 0 at the other, so that as one or the other of said cylinders is rotated it will be wound upon it and paid off from the other. Upon this cloth are pinned samples of wallpaper, the one after the other, each of which will be brought successively into proper position for examination.
The cloth backing is sufficiently strong to resist any strain to which it is liable, and, be ing secured at one end to each of the cylinders, may be, unlike an endless belt, of any desired length, and display and exhibit a great number of samples of paper.
Above cylinders G O are arranged a secon (1 pair of cylinders, lettered in the drawings J J. These I prefer to make of wood, being of small dimensionssay about three inches in diameterand they are each provided at the ends with a retainiug-flange,f. Like the cylinders O 0, they are connected by a cloth backing, G, to which the borderse are pasted, pinned, or otherwise secured across the same.
The samples of wall-paper are successively exhibited by rotating one or the other of rollers C U; and one of them having been selected by a purchaser, rotation is then imparted to the bordencxhibiting rollers until a sample is presented to suit the taste of the purchaser and match the wall-paper chosen. This is readily accomplished, as the upper edge of the paper and the lower edge of the border are in close proximity to each other.
That I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, a wall-paper exhibitor consisting of the frame A, having the lower rollers, C 0, each consisting of the rods d d, heads 0 c, and shaft d, mounted in suitable hearings on said frame, and provided with flexible backing D, secured at each end to each of said rollers, and adapted to receive a number of samples of wall-paper of ditfercnt patterns, and the independent pair of upper rollers, J J, the latter mounted in said frame in close proximity to the roller 0, and
provided with similar backing, Gr, adapted to receive a number of samples of border, whereby any border can be contrasted with any sant ple of wall-paper by turning the rollers backward and forward, as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the pres ence of two witnesses.
HORACE M. COLLINS- Witnesses I. B. KITZMILLER, N. BLAIR.
