surface, whilst a relatively great expenditure of force was necessary for pressing the strip against the said surface.
It is the main object of the present invention to overcome these disadvantages by providing a simple and efiicient device for breaking off the briquets, this device operating completely independently of the forward feed of the strip, since no force acting in the longitudinal direction of the strip is set up in the breaking off process.
Thus, this process takes place in just the same way when the strip is stationary as when it is being fed forward. In the latter case, however, it
is advantageous to make such provisions that a breaking off can take place only when the freely projecting-portion of the strip has reached a predetermined length. In this way, it is brought about that the briquets are all given the desired length.
To this end, the point at which the force acts on the strip may be placed at a distance from the terminal edge of the deflector which corresponds to the desired length of the breaking off moment.
The strip may also be provided with notches and the force so dimensioned that breaking through of the strip will take place only at the notched pointowing to the reduction of the crosssection at this point. With this arrangement, it
is advantageous if the force acts for several consecutive times on the strip in order that, even when the forward feed speed of the strip difiers or other irregularities in operation occur, the force may be made to act with certainty on the strip at the moment when the notched point reaches the end of the deflector.
For exerting the force, means of various types may be used, for example a resiliently rotating eccentric or the like.
In order to prevent the remainder of the strip from being thrown or bent towards the side on which the force acts during the breaking off over the terminal edge of the deflector, it is preferably supported or guided by a guiding device on 56 this side. Other and further objects, and advantages of the invention appear from the following detailed description.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a front elevation, partly in section, of aring rolling press;

Referring to Fig. 1 of the drawings, I provide a main supporting frame Ill of suitable character consisting of two parts Hi and lo which are fixed to each other by pillar bolts ID; in this frame It the two rollers l I are provided on shafts l2 at a distance from each other. Between the shafts l2, the driving shaft I3 is mounted in bearings I4 secured to the frame It. An electric motor I5 is provided on theframe [0 for rotating the driving shaft l3, this shaft having a tooth wheel l6 engaging the two tooth wheels I! each of which is secured to one of the shafts I2. The rollers ll support the pressing ring l8 having on its inside surface a circumferential channel formed by the lateral flanges 18. In this channel a central groove is formed by the two projections I 8". Between the projections I8" inclined scoops l9 are provided on the bottom of the said groove.
In bearings 2| on the frame In rests the shaft 20 carrying the pressing roller 22 which has a central peripheric rib 22 and is provided on its lateral convex surface with teeth 22". The part of the pressing roller 22 which is most adjacent to the interior periphery of the pressing ring l8 projects into the channel between the two flanges l8, the rib 22' extending into the groove formed between the two projections I8".
On one side of the frame I!) is mounted the electric motor 23' and the trunnion 24 on which the arm 25 is pivoted. On the opposite side of the frame a charging deviceis provided, consisting of the casing 26 having on its top the hopper 21. A worm conveyor 28 provided in this casing 26 is driven by the electric motor 29 by means of the belt gearing 30. Coaxially to this worm conveyor 28 the blade propeller 3! is mounted in the casing 26, this propeller being; rotated by the electric motor 32. A partition wall 33 secured to the casing 26 extends downwards into the central groove of the pressing ring i8, its curved opposite edge 33' being adherent to the rib 22 of the pressing roller 22. On both sides of the wall 33 flanges 34 are provided covering the channel of the pressing ring l8 and projecting downwards against the pressing roller 22.
As shown in Fig. 4, a casing 35 is secured to the frame l6, surrounding the arm 25 and tapering to the discharge chute 36. Pipes 31 connect the casing 35 to the suction fan 38 rotated by means of an electric motor not illustrated in the drawing. A partition wall 39 similar to wall 33 is fixed to the casing 35 extending into the central groove of the pressing ring I6, its curved inside edge 39' being adherent to the rib 22'. Above, this partition wall 39 projects into the casing 35, this superior projection 39" having on every side a curved wedge 39a the edge of which leans against the bottom of the channel of the pressing ring l8, whilst on its other-end a cavity 39a is provided. Referring now to Figure 5, the arm 25 has a plane middle portion 25' to which the guiding piece 40 is secured by means of the bolt 4|. On the opposite side of the plane portion 25' the spring 42 is provided the opposite end of which rests on the plate 43 which is supported by the screw 44 applied to the abutment III" of the frame It]. As illustrated in Fig. 6, ball bearings 45 are provided at the end of the arm 25 to carry the rotary shaft 46 to which the pulley 4'! is secured the belt 48 being-put on the latter.
The shaft 46 has two eccentric discs 49 on which ball bearings 50 are mounted supporting the rotary sleeve 5! having two collars 5|. In the middle part of the shaft 46 the crank 46' is provided to form an eccentric load, this load 46. and the discs 49 being eccentrical in opposite direction.
In the operation of the apparatus described before the briquetting material coming from the hopper 21 is fed by the worm conveyor 28 to the blade propeller 3! for being thrown into the two conduits formed in the channel of the pressing ring l8 by means of the partition wall 33 and its two lateral flanges 34. The rollers H being rotated in the sense shown by the arrows :c by means of the motor IS the pressing ring l8 turns in the same direction in which the material A is thrown. Entering the wedge between the pressing ring l8 and the pressing roller 22 the two streams of material catch the roller 22 and are pressed by the ring and the roller, two strips thus being produced having notches A at intervals on its concave surfaces. These strips are carried forward through the conduits formed by the channel of the pressing ring l8 and the partition wall 39 with its lateral flanges 39'. By means of the wedges 39a the strips are deflected and guided out of the channel of the pressing ring I8; they slide along the concave surfaces of these deflecting wedges, and reaching the terminal edges of them leave the conduits for freely running out below the cavities 3911f By means of the belt 48 the motor 23 rapidly rotates the shaft 46. The eccentric load 46' causes the shaft 46 to rock about its centre of rotation, the eccentric discs 49, however, causing a contrary rocking movement. The cooperation of these two rocking effects prevents the shaft 46 and the bearing 45 from being set under strain of bending, the arm 25, however, rapidly oscillating on the pin 24. This oscillation causes the arm to strike like a hammer upon the strips, the latter being hit by the collars 5i as soon as they pass within the reach of them. The rocking force is moderated by the spring 42 the tension of which can be regulated by means of the screw 44. So, I am able to adjust the hammering force to such a strength that it can break the strips only when a notch A arrives atthe terminal edge of the deflecting surface, in this moment a sudden reduction of the cross-section occurring, which section lies at the said edge for the bending moment produced by the striking collar 5! with regard to the deflector wedge 39a serving as an abutment. The cavity 39a allows the foremost briquet of each strip to be broken off without being thrown against the pressing ring l8.
In order to prevent the remaining part of a strip from being thrown back under the action of the blow exerted by a collar 5| or from breaking off at a wrong point, the guiding piece 40 is provided, leaning against the notched, concave side of the strips.
As by means of the ball bearings 50 the sleeve 5| turns very easily on the eccentric discs 49, no displacement takes place between the ball race and the strip when the former bears against the latter. Therefore, irrespective of the direction in which the eccentric rotates no force is exerted in the longitudinal direction of the strip, and it cannot, therefore, be in any way damaged by friction or the like.
After being broken off the briquets B fall down into the discharge chute 36 for being delivered out of the apparatus.
"By the breaking off of the briquets; some dust is produced which deposits in the casing 35 provided for preventing the operator of the machine from being incommodated. This dust is discharged through the pipes 3"! by means of the fan 38; it may be delivered to the feeding hopper 21 for being used again.
Some dust may get into the central groove of the channel of the pressing ring [8; such dust stores on the scoops I9 and slides down from them, as soon as they aresufficiently inclined when passing through the chamber enveloped by the casing 35.
I have illustrated and described my improvements in an embodiment which I have found very eficient and of very large capacity. I have not attempted to illustrate or describe various adaptions or embodiments which I contemplate as I believe this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt my invention as may be desired.
I claim:
1. In a ring rolling press for making briquets, in combination, a frame, rollers arranged in said frame, means for rotating said rollers, a pressing ring supported by said rollers and having a circumferential groove at its inside surface, a pressing roller eccentrically arranged within said pressing ring, the periphery of the roller lying entirely within the inner circumference of the ring, sai'd roller partially projecting into the groove of the pressing ring, teeth provided on the convex surface of the pressing roller, means for charging material into the groove of said pressing ring, means for removing the pressed material from the said groove, means for breaking the pressed material into individual briquets, said. means consisting of an arm pivoted at said frame, a spring adjustably secured to said frame and being adapted to support said arm, a rotary disc eccentrically pivoted at said arm, said disc supporting, by means of a ball bearing, a rotary sleeve, and means for rotating said disc.

3. 4. In a ring rolling press for making briquets, in combination, a frame, rollers arranged in said frame, mea is for rotating said rollers, a pressing ring supported by said rollers and having a circumferential groove at its inside surface, a pressing roller eccentrically arranged within said pressing ring, the periphery of the roller lying entirely within the inner circumference of the ring, said roller partially projecting into the groove of the pressing ring, teeth provided on the convex surface of the presslngroller, means for charging -material into the groove of said pressing ring, said means consisting of a feeding hopper, a conveying device and a curved cap extending from said conveying device and coverin the groove of the pressing ring,- said conveying device applied to said hopper, a partition wall extending from said conveying device along said groove, means for removing the pressed material from the said groove, means for breaking the pressed material into individual briquets, said means consisting of an arm pivoted at said frame, a spring adjustably secured to said frame and being adapted to support said arm, and a rotary shaft resting in said arm and being rotated by an electric motor by means of a driving belt, said shaft having an eccentric load.

In a briquetting machine, in combination, a frame, a pair of rotary pressing means eccentrically arranged in said frame, the periphery of one of said pressing means lying entirely within the inner circumference of the other, means for rotating one of said pressing means, means for charging material between said pressing means, means for removing the pressed material from the pressing means, means for breaking the pressed material into individual briquets, said means consisting of an arm pivoted at said frame, a spring adjustably secured to said frame being adapted to support said arm, a rotary disc eccentrically pivoted at said arm, said disc supporting, by means of a ball bearing, a rotary sleeve, and means for rotating said disc..
7.v In a briquetting machine, in combination, a frame, a pair of rotary pressing means eccentrically arranged in said frame, the periphery of one of said pressing means lying entirely within the inner circumference of the other, means for rotating one of said pressing means, means for charging material between said pressing means, said means consisting of a feeding hopper, a conveying device provided at said feeding hopper, and
a curved cover extending from the outlet of said conveying device into the wedge-shaped space between said pressing means, means for removing the pressed material from the pressing means, means for breaking the pressed material into individual briquets, said means consisting of an arm pivoted at said frame, a spring adjustably secured to said frame and being adapted to support said arm, a rotary disc eccentrically pivoted at said arm, said discs supporting, by means of a ball bearing, a rotary sleeve, means for rotating said disc at a high speed, said means consisting of a driving belt and an electric motor mounted on said frame.

In a briquetting machine, in combination, a frame, a pair of rotary pressing means eccentrically arranged in said frame, the periphery of one of said pressing means lying entirely within the inner circumference of the other, means for rotating one of said pressing means, means for charging material between said pressing means, said means consisting of a feeding device secured to said frame and a curved cap extending from the outlet of said feeding device into the wedgeshapecl space between said pressing means, means for removing the pressed material from the press ing means, means for breaking the pressed material into individual briquets, said means consisting of an arm pivoted at said frame, a spring adjustably secured to said frame and being adapted to support said arm, a rotary disc eccentrioally pivoted at said arm, said disc supporting, by means of a ball bearing, a rotary sleeve, and means for removing dust, said means consisting of a dust hood, a suction fan, and pipes connecting the dust hood to said fan.

In a briquetting machine, in combination, a frame, a pair of rotary pressing means eccentrically arranged in said frame, the periphery of one of said pressing means lying entirely within the inner circumference of the other, means for rotating one of said pressing means, means for charging material between said pressing means, said means consisting of a feeding hopper, a conveying device provided at said feeding hopper, and a curved cap extending from the outlet of said conveying device, means for removing the pressed material from the pressing means, said means consisting of a deflecting wedge secured to said frame and projecting along the pressing surface of one of the pressing means, means for breaking the pressed material into individual briquets, said means consisting of an arm pivoted at said frame, a spring adjustably secured to said frame and being adapted to support said arm, a rotary shaft having an eccentric load and eccentric discs, said load and said discs being eccentrically mounted in opposite direction to each other, said discs supporting, by means of ball bearings, a rotary sleeve, said shaft resting in said arm, means for rotating said shaft at a high speed, said means consisting of a driving belt and an electric motor mounted on said frame.
