IMPROVEMENT IN DRAWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 212,810, dated March 4, 1879; application iiled November l2, 1878.
To au whom t 'may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMANUEL LEVI, of Petersburg, in the county ot' Dinwiddie and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part ot' this specification.
Figure 1 represents a front view ofthe drawers when completed. Fig. 2 is a rear View of the same. Fig. 3 is a front view of the right leg, detached. Fig. 4 is a front view ot' the left leg, detached.
In the drawings, A represents the upper rear part ofthe right leg of the drawers, and A] the upper rear part of the left leg. (l and C' represent, respectively, the front parts. E E are the rear lower parts.
The rear part, A, ot' the right leg is cut of such shape as to have a iiap, A3, extending to the left ot the central line, .r y, ot' the back. The outer line of this tlap runs down in a path substantially oval until it intersects the line of thcinner seam of the left leg. At this point of intersection the cloth is cut inwardly on the line ot' said seam to the central line, m y, of the back.
The lower rear part, E, of the rightleg is cut so as to have a iiap or re-enforce, l), whose outline extends from the inner lower point ot the flap A3 outwardly, then downwardly, and inwardly to a convenient point on the line ot' the inner sea-in of the right leg.
The cloth forming the left side, A1 E', of the drawers is cut so as to have two flaps or rceniorces, A2 and D', similar in shape, and analogously situated to the parts A3 and D.
l/Vhen the parts of the drawers are to be` i sewed together the legs are placed so that theA iiap A2 shall lie upon nap A3, and it is, at itsV outer odge, stitched to the upper part, A, of`
the right leg is shown in dotted lilies in Fig.-
3 at a. Before forming this latter seam the Hap Dis turned in under the front part and sewed thereto, as shown in Fig. 3 in dotted lines at b. The edge of the front C is then turned inward and stitched along the dotted.
line a. rIhe inside seam of the left leg is formed in a similar manner, as shown at c c', Fig. 4.
The drawers may be-provided. with waistband and facings in the usual manner.
From an examination of the drawings 'it will be seen that by shaping and joining the parts in the manner described and shown I am enabled to double the cloth at the places where there is the most wear and strain; that the iinished article is seamless at the center ot the back, and that there is no waste material. It will be further seen that the lower edge of the flaps A2 and A3 are substantially on the lines ot the inside seams of the legs, and that they thus form a re-enforcement extending to a distance considerably below the crotch.
Vhat I claim isl. A drawers-leg having the back-re-enforcing piece A2 and the legre-eniorcing piece D formed of one piece, substantially as set forth.
2. A pair of drawers constructed with overlapping ilaps A2 A3, substantially as set forth.
3. A drawers-leg provided with the parts A, E, C, A3, and D, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I afx my signature in presence of two witnesses. Y
EMANUEL LEVI.
