JAR HOLDER Filed Sept. 28, W57
Inventor flawe /wclelhndlnorris Afforneys Patented Aug. 23, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a jar holder, the general object of the invention being to provide a simple device having resilient parts terminating in rubber covered members for gripping a jar or the like, when the device is forced over a part of the jar, so that the jar can be lifted from a cooker or the like without burning the hands of the user.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of the device.
Figure 2 is an edge view thereof.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4--4 of Figure 2.
As shown in these views the device comp-rises a pair of members A, each formed of a spring metal strip of fiat construction and of considerable width, the two members being connected together intermediate their ends by a rivet I which passes through two short parallel parts 2 of the strips. From these straight portions the upper portions of the two strips diverge to the straight parallel short parts 3 which receive between them the handle member 4 which is of circular shape in cross section and which is connected with the parts 3 by the screws 5. From the parts 2 the strips diverge downwardly as shown at 5 and then the strips extend downwardly in parallel relation as shown at 6. The lower end of each strip is formed with a tongue 1. A jaw member consisting of a length of rubber hose 8 containing a core 9 of wood or the like, is secured to the lower end of each strip by means of said lower end extending into the central part of the member with the tongue passing through the member and bent over as shown in the drawing.
In using the device it is simply grasped by the handle 4 and the jaw members are pressed over the cap of the jar and as this is being done the lower parts of the strips are pressed outwardly and then when the bottom of the cap is reached the parts spring inwardly so that the jaws 8 will seize and hold the jar and permit the same to be lifted from a cooker or other device.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of. the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed as new is:-
A device of the class described comprising a pair of duplicate members having straight intermediate portions, means for connecting said portions together, and said members having downwardly diverging parts terminating in depending straight and parallel parts, said members having their upper portions diverging upwardly, a handle located between the ends of said upwardly diverging parts and connected therewith and gripping members connected with the ends of the straight parallel parts, each gripping member including a straight resilient sleeve and a core of wood or the like and a tongue on the lower end of each parallel part passing diametrically through the member and bent transversely against the outer surface of the sleeve to secure the member to said parallel part.
