Application June 12, 1937, Serial No. 147,962
1 Claim.
The present invention appertains to new and useful improvements in adjustable brackets for holding drawn curtains in taut position.
An important object of the invention is to provide an adjustable bracket of the character stated which will be of simple construction yet positive acting in use.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a bracket of the character stated which will automatically retain itself as the curtain is drawn to a taut position.
Various other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings- Figure 1 represents a fragmentary elevational view of a door with the curtain thereon and showing the rod of the curtain engaged by a pair of adjustable holders.
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an end elevational view of one of the holders.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary elevational View of a door equipped with a modified form of curtain 25 holders.
Figure 5 is a Vertical sectional view through one of the modified holders.
Figure 6 is a cross sectional view of one of the modified holders. 30 Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents a door while numeral 6 represents the usual drawn curtain through the lower hem of which is disposed the rod 1.
The present invention is generally referred to by numeral 8 and consists of an elongated plate 9 having its longitudinal edge portions bent outwardly as at I0 and inwardly as at II to define guideways for the outturned flanges l2 of the slider I3 which is of U-shape and which is provided with the spring strip detent I4 secured to its inner side as at I5. This detent I4 has an inwardly curved end portion I6 for engaging the keeper slats H. The slats are formed by transversely slitting the plate 9 and then bending the same so that these slat portions assume an angle each oblique with respect to the longitudinal axis of the plate 9.
50 The slider I3 is provided with an opening l8 therein through which the stem I9 is disposed. This stem being provided with a knob at its outer end. Each of these sliders I3 is provided with a hook 2| under which the corresponding end of the curtain rod I can be engaged. Ob-- viously, by engaging the rod 1 with the hooks 2| on a pair of the holders 8 and then moving the sliders I3 downwardly, the curtain can be brought to the right tautness and retained in this position.
To release the curtain, all that is necessary is to pull outwardly on the stem I9 and this disengages the detent I4 to permit upward sliding of the slider I3.
A modified form of holder is shown in Figures 4, 5 and 6.
In this modified form of holder, a plate 22 is provided and is of elongated shape, the longitudinal edge portions of which are bent outwardly as at 23 and so formed as to define guide grooveways 24 into which can engage the ends of the pin 25 which is transverse disposed through the dog 26. This dog is of a slight S-shape in longi- 15 tudinal extent with the pin 25 disposed through its mid-point. Above the mid-point of the dog 26, that is, above the pin 25, the dog is provided with an outwardly disposed hook member 2! under which one end of a curtain rod can be en- 20 gaged as shown in Figure 4. The back portion of the plate 22 is transversely slit at equal spaced intervals and the intervening portions are bent each at an oblique position with respect to the surface of the plate 22 so as to define a ratchet- 25 way 28 with which the upper end of the dog 26 can engage.
Thus it can be seen, that the curtain rod can be pulled down and engaged under the hooks 21,
and in fact the dog pushed thereunder farther if 30 desired so as to bring the curtain to the desired tautness. The dogs will engage automatically and when releasement is necessary, all that is necessary is to push inwardly on the lower ends of the dogs 26 to rock the dogs so that their upper ends will become displaced from the ratchet- Way 28.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size 40 and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention what is claimed as new is: r
A curtain holder comprising a channeled plate, the side walls of which are provided with guide grooves, the bottom of said channeled plate formed with close longitudinally spaced transverse slits, the portions of said bottom wall between the slits being bent obliquely with respect to the plane of said bottom wall to define ratchets, and a pawl having pintle portions engaged in said guide grooves and being slidable in said channeled plate and adapted to successively engage said ratchets.
