IMPROVEMENT IN MAGAZlNE-STOVES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 212,680, dated February 25, 1879 application filed February 11, 1878.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CHARLES GAGE, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented an Improved Magazine-Stove, of which the following is a specification:

My invention relates to an improved construction of those stoves which have their upper portion or casin g separated from the body of the magazine, so as to form an air-chamber between the two.

My improvement consists in a horizontal division-plate, which forms a support for the delivery-end of the magazine and cuts off all communication between the fire-chamber and the air-chamber surrounding the magazine, said plate being constructed with three openingsone for the magazine, another for the smoke-pipe, and another opening into the pipe which connects the lower end of the airchamher directly with the smoke-pipe.

The top of the magazine is constructed with radial openings above its cover, to permit the air coming through the top of the stove to pass downward therethrough, thus mingling with the gases arising from the magazine and passing together to the air-chamber.

In order that my invention may be fully understood, I will proceed to describe it with reference to the accompanying drawing, which represents a vertical section of my improved stove.

A is the ash-pit; B,the grate; O, the firepot; D, the fire-chamber; E, the base flue; F, the main line; G, the smoke-pipe; I, the magazine; J, the casing surrounding the magazine and forming the annular chamber K; d, opening in fire-chamber, and H a door guarding the opening, all of which parts may be of any improved or desirable construction.

The magazine I is constructed with a col lar, '1, above its cover L, said collar being formed with openings 03, for permitting air to pass to the chamber K, and a flange, i, for closing the top of the chamber K.

N is the stove-stop, constructed with an opening or register, 0, for admitting air to the chamber M between it and the magazinecover.

P is my improved horizontal division-plate,

cutting off all communication between the firechamber D and the annular chamber K, and constructed with an opening, 7:, for the delivery end of the magazine I, which it supports, an opening, It, for permitting the gases arising from said magazine and the air mingled therewith to pass to a pipe or flue, Q, contiguous thereto, and an opening, W, for receivin g the smoke-pipe G. 1

It will be seen that the flue or pipe Q connects directly with the smoke-pipe at the bottom of the chamber K, thus ventilating the room and cooling the magazine, and preventing the evolution of the gases. The downward draft ventilates, while the lower portion of the stoves heats, the room.

' The fine or pipe Q being in direct communication with the smoke-pipe at the bottom of the chamber K, a rapid current of air will be drawn through the chamber K, openings i, chamber M, and opening 0 in the top N, as indicated by the arrows.

The rear side of the flue F may be furnished with a register, R, for regulating the draft in the smoke-pipe by admitting air thereto.

Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. In combination with a magazine-stove, a horizontal division-plate,1, having magazine, flue, and smoke-pipe openings It k W, respectively, and a flue, Q, located within the lite chamber, and connecting the chamber K with the smoke-pipe, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination of the horizontal division-plate I and the line Q, contiguous thereto, and connecting the air-chamber K with a smokepipe, G, as and for the purposes set forth. ,a

3. In a magazine-stove, the combination of the magazine I, constructed with collar T, havin g openings 1" and flange 2', the top N, having opening 0, the casing J, forming chamber K, the horizontal division-plate P, and the flue substantially as set CHAS. GAGE.
