Description

1938' w. I. CHASE 2,126,617
CABINET Filed Nov. s, 1936 IN VENT OR.
U1 LIHPI l- HHSE- ATTORNEYS.
Patented Aug. 9, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in cabinets and has particular reference to a cabinet containing a plurality of drawers which may be installed wherever the same may be needed.
5 A further object is to produce a device wherein the drawers are slidably supported in such a manner that the weight within the drawers will be evenly distributed.
A further object is to provide means whereby the drawers may be guided during the sliding operation.
A further object is to provide means for limiting the withdrawal of the drawer.
A further object is to produce a drawer wherein the same will slide easily.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a sink, having my drawers applied thereto;
Fig, 2 is an enlarged detailed cross sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Ordinarily, a drawer is supported only along its side edges, which permits the drawer to bind upon the sides, if the same is twisted in any manner. Also, the entire weight within the drawer is carried upon the side edges; and there is no means of limiting the amount of withdrawal. Therefore, I have provided a device which will 5 overcome these difficulties.
In the accompanying drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates the floor of the cabinet; the numeral 6, the back wall; and the numerals l and 8, the side walls. Mounted upon the floor 5 are bearings 9 and II, the bearing 9 being adjacent the wall 6, and the bearing ll, adjacent the forward part of the cabinet. A rod l2 has threaded engagement with the bearing 9 and may be rotated through the medium of a kerf I3. At I4 I have shown a drawer having a slider l6 formed upon the bottom thereof and having rollers ll secured to the forward edge of the drawer and on opposite sides thereof. Positioned above the drawer M are cross rods l8 and I9, which are engaged by clips 2| and 22 carried on the under side of a shelf 23, This shelf supports bearings similar to the bearings 9 and II, before referred to, and
bear the numerals 2d and 2% respectively. A drawer 2'! has a slider 28 similar to the slider [6. This drawer 21, however, does not carry rollers H but is supported upon rollers Ed. The slider 28 slides upon the rod 3|, which corre- 5 sponds to the rod 12, The remaining drawers, designated by the numerals 32 and 33, are similarly supported and, therefore, do not need any further description.
It will be apparent from the above description that when the drawers are pulled outwardly, as shown at the top of Fig. 2, that the sliders l6 and 28 will move upon the rods l2 and Si until the same abut the bearings H and 2d, and that the bottom of the drawers will roll upon the rollers I1 and 29; and as a consequence, the drawers will be smooth in operation. If desired, the shelves 23 may be bent upwardly along the sides of the drawers so as to further act as guides.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim2- 1. In a cabinet of the class described comprising a plurality of transverse supporting rods, a plurality of shelves having clips engaging said rods, bearings arranged upon said shelves, guide rods positioned in said bearings, rollers positioned on the outer edges of said shelves, drawers having sliders thereon engaging said guide rods, and the forward ends of said drawers engaging said rollers, whereby when said drawers are drawn outwardly said sliders engage the inner surface of said bearings to limit the outward movement of said drawers.
2. In a cabinet of the class described, a plurality of transverse supporting rods, a plurality of shelves arranged in said cabinet and having clips engaging said rods, bearings arranged upon the front and rear of said shelves, the rear bearing being threaded, guide rods positioned in said bearings and threaded into said rear bearing, rollers positioned on the outer edges of said shelves, drawers having sliders arranged under their rear ends and engaging said guide rods, the forward ends of said drawers engaging said 50 rollers, and means for limiting the outward movement of said drawers.
WILLIAM I. CHASE.
