Thisinvention relates to improvementsin carbon sheet and loose form holders.
The primary object of the invention resides in a plurality of form holder units having interlocking'means at the meeting ends thereof by which the units may be detachably connected in strip formation for successive passage through a printing machine, such as a teletypewriter, with the packs of collated carbons and loose form sheets firmly held thereon. By means of this in- 'vention, the units may be joined togetherv in sueh'a manner that the joints will withstand any longitudinal pull upon the strip such as might be exerted upon the strip during the process of feeding it through a teletypewriter.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive means for detachably connecting the meeting ends of a plurality of holder units whereby any one of the units may be removed from the strip formation and the remaining sections joined together.
A further object is the provision of a plurality of form holder units which may be joined together or separated by -moving the units laterally with respect to each other.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a holder unit in which a combined carbon and form pack may be inserted and held in a flat condition at all times, and also held firmly against accidental shifting of the individual sheets in order to insure the printing of clear and correct carbon copies.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of the parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

In Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive, the reference numeral l0 designates a form holder unit which is constructed of a flexible rectangular shaped body having its side edges folded inwardly to provide side flaps '|2,'the said flaps being stitched, adjacent to the line of fold, to the body portion II as at l3. Located on opposite sides of the top edge of the body II are locking flaps II which are secured to the body II by stitching IS. The ends of the flaps 14 are cut at an angle or bevel as at I6 for a. purpose to be subsequently explained. The lower ends of the side flaps l2 are provided with V-shaped notches I! through which a combined carbon sheet and loose form holder pack I8 is inserted. The pack l8 consists of a plurality of form sheets interleaved with carbon sheets. This pack I8 is inserted beneath the flaps l2 and slid toward the top end of the unit I0 so as to engage beneath one of the locking flaps M as is best seen in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
For facilitating the withdrawal of the pack l8 from the holder III, a cut-out opening I!) is provided in the body I I adjacent to the bottom edge thereof. This enables the fingers of an operator to grasp the lower edges of the form pack I8 thereby facilitating the removal of the pack |8 from the holder unit ID.
A flexible strip 2| is fastened by stitching to the-lower edge of the body ll of ,each holder unit III. This strip 2| is folded upon itself so as to lie against opposite sides of the body The folding, or looping, of the strip 2| provides a closed end 22 in the pocket 23 formed by the opposite walls of the strip 2|. The stitching 20 passes through the body H and both thicknesses of the strip 2|.' A second line of stitching 29 passes only through the two thicknesses of the strip 2| for the purpose of providing a line of fold for the strip 2| is will be subsequently explained.
Locking flaps, or tongues, 24 secured by stitching 25 to the inner walls of the pocket 23 adja-. cent to the lower edges of both folds of the strip 2|. when a plurality of these units l8-l9 are joined together as shown in Figs.'l and 2 of the drama, the interlocking flaps are sufficient to withstand any ordinary pull or strain which may normally be exerted lengthwise along the strip during the process of feeding the strips through a printing machine, such as a teletypewriter. The holder lmits l8-l3 have a tendmcy to fold in a sig-mg manner as shown in Fig. 2. The line of fold between the units Ill-l8 is on the stitching line 28 because this line of stitching 23 produces a flexible fold between the adjacent imits l3-l8.
Although I have not described the flaps I2, l4 and 24 and strips 2i as being of any particular material other than of a flexible material, I have found that by constructing the same of a flexible transparent material, an operator may view at all times the insertion of the form and carbon pack into position into the holder l9, and may also view the sliding of the flaps l4 into interlocking engagement with the tongues 24 of another unit ll. Ordinary tracing linen has been found practical and being very thin produces a flat and thin joint between the meeting ends of the respective holder units ill-I9.
In Fig. 5 of the drawings, I have illustrated the same type of joint as that previously described with the exception that a plurality of holder units 28 are fixedly connected together, there being a fold joint between each unit 28 so that the units of a section, or strip, will fold in a zig-zag manner as hereinbefore mentioned] However, each holder unit 26 of each section, or strip, has along its lower edge a member 21 similar to strip 2| and tongue 24. Each holder 28 also has along its top edge a member 28 similar to flap l4. The members 21 and 28 are detachably interlocked, or connected, by sliding one laterally within the other. Individual carbon sheet and form packs are inserted into the respective units in the manner already explained above. However, in this modification of the invention, a plurality of holder units 28 may be removed from the strip at one time rather than individually as is the case with the preferred form of the invention described above.
Fig. 6 illustrates a modification of the invention which is somewhat similar to that shown in Fig. 5. The difference between the two modiflcations is that the unit holder sections are adapted to receive a combined form and carbon sheet pack in strip formation. This is because the inwardly extending side flanges 38 are continuous and the pack strip is inserted beneath the flanges 38. The meeting ends of the sections 48 are provided with co-acting detachable securing means 3| and 4| similar to strip 2| and flap l4.
Figs. 7 to 10, inclusive, illustrate a further modiflcation of the invention wherein the holder unit is designated by the reference numeral 32. This unit 32 comprises a rectangular shaped body, or backing piece, 33 of flexible material. The side edges of the body 33 are folded inwardly to proamazes vide flanges 34 along opposite sides thereof. These flanges 34 are secured to the body 33 by lines of stitching 35. Equidistantly spaced holes, or perforations, 38 are provided in the flanges 34 and pass through the body 33. These perforations 38 are adapted to receive the teeth of sprocket feed rollers when the form holder 32 is used in a printing machine, such as a teletypewriter, which employs sprocket feed wheels for feeding the strip' or form holder 32 evenly through the machine. The side flaps 34 are notched, as at 31, adjacent to their opposite ends for facilitating the insertion of a carbon pack 88 beneath the flanges 34.
Flaps 38 are secured by means of stitching 39 to opposite ends of the body 33 and to opposite sides thereof. When-connecting two units 32 together, the ends to be connected are brought into engagement with each other after which a locking strip 49 is slid into position. This locking strip 49 comprises a single strip of flexible material bent upon itself to provide a closed end 58 and is stitched lengthwise at 5| in order to divide the strip 49 into two longitudinal pockets 52-52. Secured to the inner walls of the pockets 52-52 by means of stitching 54 are flaps 53-53 which are located adjacent to the edges of the strip 49.
These flaps 53 are adapted to interlock with the flaps 38 in a manner similar to that in which flaps i 4 interlock with strips 2i and tongues 24. This can be best seen in Fig. 8 of the drawings. The locking strip 49 embraces opposite sides of the holder unit 32 and its closed end 5!! acts as a stop for limiting the sliding movement of the strip with respect to the holder unit 32, and causes the units 32 to assume a position of alignment. The central line of stitching 5| of the locking strip 49 acts as a line of fold between the meeting ends of the respective units 32-32. As was mentioned in the description of the preferred embodiment of the invention, the various flaps and strips 49 maybe made of transparent material so that an operator may view the sliding of the parts together during the assembling of the units 32-32.
The ends of the flaps 38 may be cut at an angle, or beveled, as at 55 for facilitating the insertion of the locking strip 49 with its flaps 53 into engagement with the flaps 38.
While I have shown and described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiments of my invention, I wish it to be understood that various changes in construction may be resorted to, if desired, and I do not intend to limit myself to the precise structural details herein set forth, nor to anything less than the whole of my invention as set forth in the appended claims.
What isv claimed is:
1. In combination, a plurality of holder units for holding paper, each of said holder units comprising a backing piece, a plurality of holding instrumentalities, means for securing at least one of said holding instrumentalities to each backing piece for enabling each holder unit to slidably receive paper, a plurality of interlocking flaps, and means for securing at least one of said interlocking flaps to one end of each backing piece for enabling the holder units to be joined in strip formation.
2. In combination, a plurality of holder units for holding packs of form and carbon sheets, each of saidholder units comprising a flexible body, a plurality of holding instrumentalities,
means for securing at least one of said holding instrumentalities to each body for enabling-each body to slidably receive a pack of form and carbon sheets, a plurality of interlocking flaps, and means for securing at least one of said interlocking flaps to each end of each body for enabling the holder units to be interchangeably joined in strip formation.
3. In combination, a plurality of holder units for holding paper, each of said holder units comprising a body, a plurality of holding instrumentalities, means for securing at least one of said holding instrumentalities to each-body for enabling each body to slidably receive paper, a. plurality oi flaps, means for securing at least one flap to one end of each holder unit, and interlocking means for engaging with the flaps for enabling the holder units to be joined in strip formation.

In combination, a plurality of holder units for holding packs of form and carbon sheets, each of said holder units comprising a body, a plurality of holding instrumentalities, means for securing at least one of said holding instrumentalities to each body for enabling each body to slidably receive a pack of form and carbon sheets, a plurality of flaps, means for securing one of the flaps to one side of the body of each holder unit at one end thereof, means for securing another of the flaps to another side of the body of each holder unit at the same end thereof as the firstmentioned flap, and means for engaging with said iiaps for enabling the holder units to be joined in strip formation.

In combination, a plurality of holder units for holding sheets of paper, each of said holder units comprising a body, a plurality of holding instrumentalities, means for securing at least one of said holding instrumentalities to each body for enabling each body to slidably receive sheets of paper, a flap, means for securing the flap to one end of one body, and means for forming a slot in one end of another body for slidably receiving the flap secured to the first body for enabling the holder units to be joined in strip a formation.

In combination, a plurality of holder units for holding packs of form and carbon sheets, each of said holder units comprising a body, a plurality of holding instrumentalities, means for securing a plurality of said holding instrumentalities to each body for enabling each body to slidably receive a pack of form and carbon sheets, a plurality of flaps, means for securing at least one flap to one end of each body, and means for forming a slot in another end of each body for slidably receiving a flap secured to another body for enabling the holder units to be interchangeably ioined in strip formation.

In combination, a plurality of holder units for holding paper, each of said holder units comprising a backing piece, a plurality of holding instrumentalities, means for securing at least one of said holding instrumentalities to each backing piece for enabling each holder unit to slidably receive paper, a flap, means for securing the flap to one end of one backing piece, and means for forming a pocket open along only one end and along only one side and formed in one edge of another backing piece for slidably receiving the flap secured to the other backing piece for enabling the holder units to be detachably joined in strip formation.

In combination, a plurality of holder units for holding sheets of paper, each of said holder 75 units comprising a backing strip, a plurality of holding instrumentalities, means for securing at least one of said holding instrumentalities to each backing strip for enabling each holder unit to slidably receive sheets of paper, a flap, means for securing the flap to one end of one backing strip and means for forming a slot in one end of another backing strip, a tongue, and means for securing the tongue to one of the inside walls of the slot for engaging in interlocking relation with the flap secured to the other backing strip for enabling the holder units to be joined in strip formation.

In combination, a plurality of holder units for holding packs of form and carbon sheets, each of said holder units comprising. a flexible body, a. plurality of flanges, means for securing at least one of the flanges to each body for enabling each body to slidably receive a pack of form and carbon sheets, a plurality of flaps,
means for securing one of the flaps to one side of one body at one end thereof, means for securing another of the flaps to an opposite side of this body at the same end thereof as the firstmentioned flap, means for forming a slot in one end of another body, a plurality of tongues, means for securing one of the tongues to one of the inside walls of the slot, and means for securing another of the tongues to another of the inside walls of the slot for engaging in interlocking relation with the flaps secured to said first body for enabling the holder units to be detachably joined in strip formation.

In combination, a plurality of groups of holder units arranged end to end for holding a plurality of packs of form and carbon sheets, each group of holder units having a common backing piece with a plurality of foldable sections, a plurality of holding instrumentalities, means for securing at'least two of said holding v instrumentalities to each section of the backing piece for enabling each of said sections to slidably receive a separate pack of form and carbon sheets, a plurality of interlocking flaps, and means for securing at least one of said interlocking flaps to one end of each group of holder units for enabling the groups of holder units to be joined in strip formation. 1

In combination, a plurality of holder units arranged end to end for holding packs of form and carbon sheets arranged in strip formation and having foldable sections, each holder unit comprising a body having a plurality of .foldable sections, a plurality of holding instrumentalities, means for securing at least one of said holding instrumentalities to each body for enabling each body to slidably receive a pack of form and carbon sheets having a plurality of foldable sections, a
plurality of interlocking flaps, and means for securing at least one of said interlocking flaps to one end of each holder unit for enabling the holder units to be joined in strip formation.

In combination, a plurality of holder units arranged end to end in strip formation for holding sheets of paper, each of said holder units comprising a body, a plurality of holding instrumentalities, means for securing'at least one of said holding instrumentalities to each body for enabling each body to slidably receive sheets of paper, a. plurality of flaps, means for securing at least one of said flaps to one end of each body,
and a separate joining instrumentality for engaging with a flap secured to one holder unit and with a flap secured to an adjoining holder unit for enabling these holder units to be joined in strip formation.

In combination, a plurality of holder units arranged end to end in strip formation for bolding packs of form and carbon sheets, each of said holder units comprising a body, a plurality of holding instrumentalities, means for securing a plurality of said holding instrumentalities to each body for enabling each body to slidably receive a pack of form and carbon" sheets, a plurality oi! flaps, means for securing at least one of said flaps to each end of each body, and a separate joining instrumentality for engaging in interlocking relation with a flap secured to one end of a holder unit and with a flap secured to one end of an adjoining holder unit for enabling these holder units to beinterchangeably 14. In combination, a plurality of holder units arranged end to end in strip formation for holding sheets of paper, each'of said holder units comprising a body, a plurality of holding instrumentalities, means for securing at least one of said holding instrumentalities to each body for enabling each body to slidably receive sheets of paperia' plurality of flaps, means for securing at least one of said flaps to each end of each body, a separate joining instrumentality, means for forming a slot along one edge of said joining instrumentality for slidably receiving a flap secured to one holder unit, and means for forming a slot along another edge of said joining instrumentality for receiving a flap secured to another holder unit for enabling these holder units to be Joined in strip formation.

In combination, a plurality of holder units .arranged end to end in strip formation for holding packs of form and carbon sheets, each of said holder units comprising a body, a plurality of holding instrumentalities, means for securing at least one ofsaid holding instrumentalities to each body for enabling each body to slidably receive a pack of form and carbon sheets, a
plurality of flaps, means for securing at least one of said flaps to one end of each body, a separate Joining instrumentality, means for forming a pocket open along only one end and along only one side and formed in one edge of said joining instrumentality for slidably receiving a flap secured to one holder unit, and means for forming a pocket open along only one endand along only one side and formed in another edge of said joining instrumentality for slidably receiving a flap secured to another holder unit for enabling the holder units formation.

In combination, a plurality of holder units arranged end to end in strip formation for holding packs of form and carbon sheets, each of said holder units comprising a body, a pluralityflo of holding instrumentalities, means for securing at least one of said holding instrumentalities to each body for enabling each body to slidably receive a pack of form and carbon sheets, a plurality of flaps, means for securing at least one of said flaps to one end of each body, a separate joining instrumentality, a plurality of tongues, and means for securing at least two of said tongues to the Joining instrumentality for engaging in interlocking relation with a flap secured to one end of a holder unit and with a flap secured to a holder unit adjoining said first holder unit for enabling these holder units to be joined in strip formation.

In combination, a plurality of holder units arranged end to end in strip formation for holding packs of form and carbon sheets, each of said holder units comprising irbody, a plurality of holding instrumentalities, means for securing at least one of said holding instrumentalities to each body for enabling each body to slidably receive a pack oi. form and carbon sheets, a plurality of flaps, means for securing at least one of said flaps to one end of each body, a separate joining instrumentality, means for form ing a slot along one edge of said Joining instrumentality, means for forming a slot along another edge of said Joining instrumentality, a plurality of tongues, means for securing at least one tongue to the inside of one slot for engaging in interlocking relation with the flap secured to one body, and means for securing at least one tongue to the inside of the slot in the other edge of the Joining instrumentality for engaging in interlocking relation with the flap secured to said other body for enabling the holder units to be Joined in strip formation.
