The invention relates to combination garments comprising upper and lower dress elements which are detachably secured to' each other and which together form a gure molding garment.
The invention has for one of its objects to provide an improved garment having a high degree oi flexibility. The invention has for another object to providean improved construction which may be made at reduced cost` for securing the upper and lower dress elements to each other.
These and other objects of the invention will become apparent from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a rear elevation of a combination garment showing an embodiment of my invenand lower dress elements l and 2 respectively.L
As shown, the upper dress element is a brassire and the lower dress element is a girdle, both of which open at the same side with the openings registering with each other. brassire and girdle at these openings are secured to each other by suitable means, such as hooks and eyes.
The brassire preferably overlaps the upper portion of the girdle at the outer side thereof and is detachably and adjustably secured to the girdle at both the front and the rear of the garment by means including the tapes 3. These tapes are permanently secured to the lower edge portion of the brassire as by being stitched thereto and extend downwardly along the outer side of the girdle, then through the openings 4 in the girdle, and then downwardly along the inner side of the girdle to be engaged by suitable fasteners, preferably the buttons 5, upon the inner side of the girdle.k The lower end portions of the tapes are provided with a plurality of button holes.
To assist in retaining the form and toy secure a high degree of flexibility and also to materially improve the manner of securing the brassire to the girdle, I have provided in the rear panel of the girdle a particular stay arrangement having a definite relation to the tapes, the openings 4 and the buttons 5. In detail, the rear panel has the sets 6 of longitudinally extending stays on opposite sides of and equally spaced from or Ihe edges of the tape, said girdle having a stay extending longisymmetrically arranged with respect to the longitudinal median line of the panel. Each set 6 comprises the stays 1, 8 and 9. The stays 8 and 9 are in substantial alignment and are arranged parallel to and spaced a relatively small distance 5 irom'the stays 1. All of these stays are relatively narrow and highly ilexibleso that as a result the set is decidedly more flexible than a single wide stay and yet appreciably assist in retaining :the form. The stay 'l extends from adjacent the lower edge to adjacent the upper edge of the panel and the stays 8 and 9 extend from adjacent the lower edge and the upper edge respectively of the panel toward each other to terminate in zones spaced from each other longitudinally of the panel to form a gap therebetween. The stay 9 is short as compared with the stay 8, the latter extending along by far the major v portion of the length of the panel. The stays "I, 8-and 9 are located between the main body ID 20 of fabric forming the rear panel and the fabricV covering Il at the inner side ofthe panel. The covering extends from the lower edge to the upper edge and is secured to the main body by l stitching. Both the covering and the main body are formed with the transverse opening!! in the upper portion of the gap between the stays 8 and 9. The button 5 is also located in the gap below the opening 4.
The arrangement is such that the stays of each set, in addition to assisting in retaining the form and providing for relatively high flexibility, also serve to provide a recess or depression at the gap for receiving the button, so that the latter will not irritate the wearer of the garment or `produce a noticeable bulge in the girdle. Furthermore, the intended lines of the upper portion of the girdle are preserved. In addition, the construction is such that the cost of manufacture is appreciably reduced.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A combination garment, comprising a girdle, a brassire overlapping said girdle at the outer side thereof and means for detachably securing said brassire to said girdle, comprising a tape 45 secured to said brassire and extending through an opening in said girdle and along the inner side thereof, and a fastener secured to the inner side of said girdle and detachably engaging said tudinally thereof, and upper and ylower substantially aligned stays adjacent to said'first mentioned stay and having ends spaced from each other, said girdle having an opening located below said upper stay and said rst mentioned stay 55 and upper and lower stays cooperating to form a recess for receiving said fastener.
2. A combination garment, comprising a girdle, a brassire overlapping said girdleY at the outer side thereof and means for detachably securing said brassire to said girdle, comprising a tape secured to said brassire and extending through an opening in said girdle and along the inner side thereof, and a fastener secured to the inner side of said girdle and detachably engaging said tape, said girdle having a stay extending longitudinally thereof, and upper and lower stays having endsspaced from each other and located adjacent saidfirst mentioned stay, said rst mentioned stay and upper and lower stays cooperating to form a recess for receiving said fastener.
3. A combination garment, comprising a girdle, a brassire overlapping said girdle at the outer side thereof and means for detachably securing said brassire to said girdle, comprising a tape secured to said brassire and extending'through an opening in said girdle and downwardlyalong the inner side thereof, and a button secured to the inner side of said girdle and detachably engaging said tape, said girdle having a stay extending longitudinally thereof from adjacent the lower edge to adjacent the upper edge, and upper and lower stays substantially parallel to said first mentioned stay, said lower stay extending from adjacent' the lower edge of said girdle and said upper stay extending,r from adjacent the upper edge of said girdle, said upper and lower stays terminating short of each other and cooperating with said first mentioned stay to form a recess for receiving said button.
4. A combination garment comprising a girdle forming a lower dress element, a brassire forming an upper dress element and means for detachably securing said brassire to said girdle, comprising a tape secured to said brassire and extending through an opening in said girdle and along one side thereof, means for detachably fastening said tape to said girdle, said girdle havv, ing a stay extending longitudinally thereof, and
forming a lower dress element, a brassire forming an upper dress element and means for detachably securing said brassire to said girdle,
. comprising a tape secured to said brassire and means for detachably fastening said tape to said girdle, saidgirdle having a stay extending longitudinally thereof from adjacent the lower edge to adjacent the upper edge, and upper and lower stays substantially parallel to said rst mentioned stay, said lower stay extending from adjacent the lower edge of saidgirdle and said upper stay extending from adjacent the upper edge of said girdle, said'upper and lower'stays terminating short of each other and cooperating with said first mentioned stay to form a recess for receiving said fastening means.
