ADVERTIS ING FLY CHASER Filed Aug. 14, 1957 2 sheetsvsheet 2 Inventor Patented July 19, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention is what may be called an advertising fly chaser, the invention consisting f a device adapted to be attached to a screen door or similar closure to be operated incidental to the opening and closing of the door in a manner tending to scare away the flies from about the door opening to the end that fewer flies will enter through the opening incidental to the closing or opening of the door.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be utilized for advertising purposes.
The invention together with its objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure l is an elevational view illustrating the application of the invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view of a plate and stub shaft assembly for one end of the blade forming part of the device.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 of a plate and shaft assembly for the second end of the rotating blade.
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view through the blade.
Figure 5 is a top plan view illustrating the application of the invention.
Figure 6 is a side elevational View of a track.
Figure 7 is an elevational view of a bearing bracket, and
Figure 8 is an elevational view of a roller element.
Referring to the drawings by reference nu- 35 merals it will be seen that 5 indicates the casing surrounding a door opening and 6 indicates a door, in the present instance a screen door hinged to one side of the casing 5 as at 'I and in the usual manner.
In accordance with the present invention there are mounted diagonally on opposite members of the frame of the door 6, proper, lower and upper brackets 8 and 9 respectively.
Each of the brackets 8 and 9, as shown in Figure '7, consists of an apertured attaching flange IIJ through the medium of which and screws or other fastening elements II the bracket is secured to the door frame to extend diagonally of the frame. Extending from the attaching flange I0 is an arm I2 having a shaft receiving opening I3.
A revolving blade is indicated by the reference numeral I4. The blade I4 is formed from an oblong sheet of cardboard, metal or other suitable material reinforced as found desirable at its longitudinal edges. v
Secured transversely to the blade I4 at one end of the blade is a plate I5 that is provided intermediate its ends with an integral pintle or stub shaft I6 that is journaled in the opening I3 in the door bracket 8. Shaft I6 is provided With a xed collar I'I to bear against one side of the arm I2 of bracket 8 as shown in Figure l.
Secured transversely to a relatively opposite end of the blade I4 is a plate I8 that is provided, intermediate its ends, with an integral shaft or spindle I9 that is journaled in the opening I3 in arm I2 of bracket 9. Shaft I9 is also provided with a fixed flange or collar 20 that bears against one side of the arm I2 of said bracket 9.
It will thus be seen that the blade I4 is rotatably supported at one side of door Ii and extends diagonally of the door. It will be further noted that the blade I4 is so supported in spaced relation to the door as to be free to revolve incidental to a movement of the door to opened or closed position.
Projecting from the casing 5 and secured to the casing 5 at an upper corner of the latter is a longitudinally curved track 2 I.
Track 2I, as clearly shown in Figure 6, is provided at one end to present a pair of reversely extending, apertured attaching ilanges 22 through the medium of which and screws, or other fastening elements 22a the track 2| at one end thereof is secured to the frame 5 with the top flange of the track disposed at an angle to the horizontal.
At its free end the track 2| is slightly curved downwardly to receive the roller 24, hereinafter more fully referred to, as the door swings to a closed position from a substantially completely open position.
Secured on the free end of the spindle or stub shaft I9, and at the desired adjustment on said end of the shaft through the medium of nuts 23 is a roller 24 in the form, in the present instance, of a rubber ball suitably apertured to accommodate the threaded end I9a of the spindle or stub shaft I9.
As shown in Figure 1 the roller 24 ridesI on the track 2l, and nuts 23 binding against the roller 24 at opposite sides of the latter secure the roller 24 to the shaft I9 in a manner to cause the shaft I9 and consequently the blade I4 to rotate with the roller, or in the present instance, ball 24.
It will thus be seen that as door 6 swings to either open or closed position blade I4 will be caused to rapidly rotate, and this rotating moveclosure, said attachment comprising a pair of brackets adapted to be mounted on the closure at one side thereof, said brackets being disposed diagonally to support a rotating blade diagonally of the closure, a blade provided at the respective opposite ends thereof with stub shafts journaled in said brackets, and means for imparting rotative movement to the blade incidental to a swinging of the closure to open orclosed position.
2. In combination with a casing and a door hinged to one side of the casing, a pair of brackets disposed diagonally relative to one another on said door at one side of the door, a blade provided at its respective opposite ends with stub shafts journaled in said brackets in such a manner said blade is rotatably supported diagonally of the door and in spaced relation to said one side of the door, an arcuate rail projecting from said casing adjacent the upper end of the latter, and a roller on the stub shaft at the upper end of said blade riding on said rail for imparting rotative movement to the blade incidental to a swinging movement of the v.door to open or closed position.
3. In combination with a door casing and a door hinged at one edge thereof to one side of the casing, a fly chasing device comprising a blade disposed diagonally of the door at one side thereof and spaced from the door to rotate freely, an arcuate track secured at one end to the casing at the side thereof opposite to the rst named side;of the casing, and roller means connected with said blade at the upper end of the latter and riding on said track for imparting rotative movement to said blade incidental to an opening or closing of said door.
