Description

COOKING RANGE OR STOVE Filed June 25, 1937 Geo ge Alb ewl; L/ I Patented July 12, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application June 25, 1937, Serial No. 150,394 In Great Britain December 16, 1936 2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in cooking ranges or stoves of the type including a fire chamber and an oven' disposed alongside and shielded from the fire chamber by a partition wall forming a vertical boundary of the oven flue.
In the use of cooking ranges or stoves of this type the partition wall is liable to be distorted or even split on account of localized overheating.
An object of the invention is to overcome this drawback.
According to the invention the partition wall is studded on the side adjacent to the fire chamber with renewable metallic protector-plates contrived' to prevent destructive overheating of said wall.
Preferably, the partition wall is perforated for penetration by stems presented by the protectorplates, each protector-plate being conveniently secured in position by a cotter pin penetrating an extension of the stem of the protector plate and engaging an inclined abutment on the partition wall, for the purpose of squeezing a resilient Washer between the protector-plate and the partition wall.
The protector-plates, which may be of square, rectangular, diamond or other shape, are preferably arranged in closely spaced relation on the partition wall.
A cooking range or stove according to the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. l is a fragmentary longitudinal vertical section showing the fire chamber and part of the oven. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary elevation showing the protector-plates on the partition Wall, and Fig. 3. is a fragmentary sectional view drawn to a larger scale showing a protector-plate in position on the partition wa Referring to the drawing, I denotes the stove casing, 2 the fire chamber bounded on one side by a partition wall 3 which shields an oven 4 from the fire chamber; 5 denotes the hotplate having a part 5 depending into the fire chamber; 6 denotes the ash-box.
In order to protect the wall 3 against destructive overheating, said wall is studded, on the side adjacent to the fire chamber 2, with a plurality of renewable protector-plates 1 each integral with a stem 8 which penetrates a perforation 9 in the wall 3. Each protector-plate l is detachably secured in position by a cotter pin I9 abutting on 5 the face of the wall 3 adjacent to the oven 4 and penetrating an apertured boss l I forming a rearwardly projecting extension of the stem 8. A resilient washer I2 is interposed between each protector-plate l and the wall 3. The cotter pins 10 I0 engage inclined abutments I 3 on the wall 3, so that the washers l2 are squeezed between the protector-plates and the wall 3.
The protector-plates 1 shown are of rectangular form and are arranged in closely spaced rela- 15 tion in rows on the wall 3 which is constituted by a readily renewable plate perforated for reception of the stems 8 of the protector-plates. Each protector-plate is formed with a marginally chamfered or bevelled outer face as indicated at 20 I4.
I claim:
1. In a cooking range or stove, the combination with a fire chamber, an oven disposed alongside said fire chamber and a perforated partition Wall 25 interposed between said oven and said fire chamber, said partition wall formed with inclined abutments on the side remote from said fire chamber, of renewable protector plates having stems entering the perforations and provided with extensions, Washers interposed between said protector plates and the side of said partition Wall adjacent to said fire chamber, and cotter pins penetrating said extensions and engaging said abutments.
2. In a cooking range or stove, the combination 35 with a fire chamber, an oven disposed alongside said fire chamber, and a metallic partition'plate interposed between said oven and said fire chamber, said plate spaced laterally from said oven and forming part of the boundary of a passage sur- 40 rounding said oven, of renewable protector plates studded to said plate on the side of said plate adjacent to said fire chamber.
