A further object of, the invention is to pro-` vide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a scrubber structure including an` entendible detachable scrubbing element of brush-like form.`
A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set, forth, a scrubber structure including a vertically movable cushioned carrier and an expandible` scrubbing elei" ment capable, of being detachably connected to the carrier whereby when worn or impaired, it may be readily detached and a` non-worn or nonimpaired element substituted without discarding the carrier. im' A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a scrubber structure including a scrubbing element formed of a circular outer portion for scrubbing that part of the outer periphery of the glass bordering the closed end of the latter and an inner portion arranged within, and disposed diametrically of the circular portion for scrubbing `throughout the outer Vface of the closed end of the glass.
A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth,` a scrubber structure including a skeleton scrubbing element and a vertically movable cushioned carrier therefor having means for detachably coupling said n element thereto to bodily move therewith, as well as extending such element during the coupling of thelatter with the carrier.
Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a scrubber structure which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, readily assembled, thoroughly eflicient in its use and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
To the above ends essentially and to others which may hereinafter appear the invention con- 5 sists of the novel construction, combination and arrangementiof parts as will be morev specifically described and` are as illustrated in the accompanying drawingwherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications may be resortedjto which fall Within the scope of the invention as claimed.

Asis well known and as disclosed by the patents aforesaid,whenscrubber structures are employed in machines for washing drinking glasses, the structures are employed in a group, the number of structures of the group depending upon 3 the number of glasses which are tobe subjected simultaneously to, the washing operation. The structures of the group are arranged in spaced relation. The group is carried by a support common thereto. The structures are slidably mounted in thesupport. When the glassesare subjected to thewashing operation` they are inverted and mounted4 in a tray or basket. The latter with the glasses thereinl is loweredl into, and supportedy in lowered, position within a Washing compartment. The support carryingthegroup of scrubber structures` is then lowered into the compartment aforesaid until the scrubbing structures yieldably engage the closed ends of the glasses. During the washing operation the glasses are resiliently held against the scrubbing structures and this action is continuedV until the finish of the washing operation, after which the scrubbing structures and then the tray or basket with the washed glasses are removed from. the Washing compartment.
Withy reference to the drawing the support which slidably suspends a group of scrubber structures is fragmentarlyA shown and is illustrated in zio connection with a single scrubber structure. The

A scrubber structure, in accordance with this invention, includes a vertically movable cushioned carrier 4 adapted to be slidably suspended from the support I and a scrubbing element which is detachably connected to the inner or lower end of carrier 4- The carrier 4 includes a shaft 6, a coupler 1, a cushioning spring 8, a hanger 9 and a retaining screw Il). The shaft 6 is formed lengthwise of the axis thereof with a screw threaded socket I I opening at the outer end I2 thereof. The socket II is of less length than that of shaft 6. The latter is of circular cross section and includes portions I3, I4 of different diameters. The portion I3 is of greater length and of greater diameter than the portion I4. The junction of Vthe portions of different diameters provides a shoulder I5. The portion I4 merges into the inner end of portion I3. The latter is formed with a keyway I6 which extends from shoulder I5 to shaft end I2. The coupler 1 includes a plate formed of an intermediate part I1 and a pair of oppositely extending end parts I8, I9. The part I1 is of greater width than the parts I8, I9 and is formed with a vertical opening 20 at its axis. The lower face of part I1 is formed with an annular rabbet 2I which borders the lower end of opening 20. The outer end edges 22, 23 of the parts I6, I9 respectively are of arcuate contour and oppositely disposed. The lower faces of the parts I8, I9, inwardly adjacent to the edges 22, 23 have depending oppositely disposed frictional clamping ribs 24, 25 respectively of segmental contour. The portions 26, 21 of the lower faces of the parts I8, I9, outwardly adjacent the ribs 24, 25 respectively, are to be arranged in superposed relation with respect to the top of the circular portion, to be referred to, of the scrubbing element 5. The portion I 4 of shaft 6 extends into opening 26, the shoulder I5 bears against the upper face of coupler 1, the inner end of shaft portion I4 is upset, as at 28 and arranged in the rabbet 2| whereby the inner end 28 of shaft portion I4 will coact with the shoulder I5 to connect shaft 6 to coupler 1. To prevent the carrier 4 from bodily revolving relative to support I the boss 3 is provided with a stop, in the form of a pin, screw or lug and shown by way of example a pin 29 which extends into the key-way I6. The size of the pin 29 relative to the width of the key-way I6 is such as not to prevent the vertical movement of the carrier 4 relative to support I.
The scrubbing element 5 is of skeleton form and includes a circular split extendible hollow head 3l! opening throughout its lower face, as at 3I and provided with a pair of spaced depending outwardly inclined parallel anges 32, 33 integral with the split ends of the head. Extending into and throughout and depending from the head 39, as well as being clamped thereto by the flanges 32, 33 is a scrubbing member 34 corresponding in length to that of head 3U and consisting of rows of bristles arranged in a manner to provide that portion of member 34 which depends from flanges 32, 33 of tapered form. The flanges correspond in length to that of the head 30. The latter is formed of a split annular outer portion 35 and an inner portion 36 which is disposed within and diametrically with respect to the portion 35. The flanges 32, 33 direct the rOWs of bristles at an outward inclination with respect to the portion 35 of head 30 and also at an inclination with respect to the portion 36 of head 30. The bristles of the rows'of bristles carried by portion 36 of head 39 are of less height than the bristles carried by portion 35 of head 30.
The distance between the outer side edges of the ribs 24, 25 is slightly greater than the inner diameter of portion 35 of head 30. The ribs are adapted to bear against spaced parts of the inner side of the said portion 34, whereby the latter will be extended and detachably frictionally clamped to coupler 1.
Surrounding the shaft 6 is a coiled cushioning spring 31 which seats at its inner end on coupler 1. When the structure is moved upwardly, the outer end of spring 31 abuts support I and cushions such upward movement.
The hanger 9 of the carrier 4 is in the form of an annulus 38 mounted on and of greater diameter than that of the outer end of shaft 6. The hanger 9 is secured on shaft 6 by the headed retaining screw I9 extending through the hanger 9 and engaging the wall of socket II.
When the scrubber structure is in its lowermost position, the hanger 9'seats on the upper edge of boss 3 (Figure 1).
What I claim ist- 1. In a scrubber structure, a brush structure forme-d of an annular portion carrying a brush element, and a rigid plate having means on its upper face for connecting it with a shaft and a pair of ribs on its lower face in the form of segments of a circle diametrically oppositely located for frictionally engaging the inner face of opposite sides of said annular portion.
2. In a scrubber structure, a brush structure including a brush element carrying part formed of an annular portion and a portion extending inwardly from the annular portion, and a rigid plate overlapping the annular portion and having end edges lying within the perimeter of the brush structure, said plate having means on its upper face for connecting it with a shaft and a pair of ribs on its lower face in the form of segments of a circle diametrically oppositely located for frictionally engaging the inner face of opposite sides of said annular portion.
3. In a scrubber structure, a brush structure formed of an annular portion carrying a brush element, and a rigid plate overlapping the annular portion and having end edges lying within the perimeter of the brush structure, said plate having means on its upper face for connecting it with a shaft and a pair of ribs on its lower face in the form of segments of a circle diametrically oppositely located for frictionally engaging the inner face of opposite sides of said annular portion.
