Description

Dec. 31, 1968 w. v. SANTIC 3,419,240
GARBAGE CAN PROTECTOR Filed April 5, 1967 YINVENTOR.
W|LLIAM V. SANTIC United States Patent 3,419,240 GARBAGE CAN PROTECTOR William V. Santic, 64-09 56th Road, Maspeth, NY. 11378 Filed Apr. 5, 1967, Ser. No. 628,662 1 Claim. (Cl. 248350) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Garbage collectors normally throw garbage cans down against pavements and the like while collecting garbage thus damaging the can. I provide a protector adapted for detachable engagement with the bottom of the can be protect same from damage during the garbage collection process.
Summary of the invention Brief description of the drawings In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a side view of a garbage can with my protector secured thereto;
FIG. 2 is a sectional view through 22 in FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a sectional view through 3-3 in FIG. 2;
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of my protector per se; and
FIG. 5 is a sectional view through 55 in FIG. 4.
Detailed description of preferred embodiment Referring now to FIGS. 1-5, there is shown a garbage can having a fiat horizontal circular bottom 12 with p Ce a peripheral lip 14 extending vertically downward therefrom.
My protector is a circular member having a flat circular horizontal section 16 with an upwardly extending peripheral portion 18. Portion 18 comprises a first outer horizontal ring 20 of given vertical level with an inner horizontal ring 22 of lower vertical level concentrically disposed therein and spaced apart therefrom by a fi-at horizontal annular section 24 coplanar with section 16 which defines a circular groove or recess 26. Lip 14 engages said recess 26 detachably.
Note that section 16 is spaced apart from bottom 12. If desired, portion 18 and section 16 need not be integral and indeed, in some inexpensive applications, section 16 can be eliminated.
While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, my protection is to be limited only by the terms of the claim which follows.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In combination, a garbage can having a bottom flat horizontal circular surface with a vertically downwardly extending peripheral lip, and a protector comprising a circular flat horizontal disc having a first vertically upwardly extending peripheral lip of selected height and a second concentric vertically upwardly extending lip disposed inwardly from but adjacent to the first lip to define an annular groove there-between, said second lip being lower in height then the first lip, the can resting upon the protector with the lip of the can being disposed in the groove and the bottom surface of the can in the region of the disc between its center and the second lip being upwardly spaced from this region.
