In balancing apparatus where a vibratory frame is employed to support a rotatable body to be tested, it has been found that where a long and heavy body is being tested there is a deiiection or bending of the frame.
The object of this invention is to devise novel means to prevent the deflection or bending of the vibratory frame and to construct it in such a manner that it will not interfere with the vibratory movements of the frame during the balancing operation.
With the above and other objects in view as will hereinafter clearly appear, my invention comprehends novel means for supporting the frame between its vibratory mounting.
It further comprehends a novel construction and arrangement of an intermediate support for the vibratory frame which does not interfere with th-e vibratory movements of the frame.
Other novel features of construction and advantage will hereinafter more clearly appear in the detailed description and the appended claims.
For the purpose of illustrating the invention I have shown in the accompanying drawing a typical embodiment of it, which, in practice, will give reliable and satisfactory results. It is, however, to be understood that this embodiment is typical only and that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized, and the invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein set forth.
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a balancing apparatus embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation.
Figure 3 is a sectional elevation, on an enlarged scale of one of the supporting members and its adjuncts.

Referring to the drawing:-
I designates the bed of a balancing machine of any desired or conventional construction. The bed is provided with levelling devices 2. 3 designates vibratory mountings which support a vibratory frame or cradle 4 on which the rotatable body to be tested is mounted in the manner well known in this art. 5 are pivot forming means for providing in a selected plane a right or left xed pivot for the vibratory movements of the vibratory frame. 6 designates a base longitudinally adjustable along the bed and xed in its adjusted position .by a fastening device 'I in threaded en gagement with a selected aperture 8 in the bed I. 'Ihe base 6 is provided with a longitudinally eX- tending inverted T-shaped slot 9 in which is slidable a shoe I which is threaded to receive the lower end of a support rod II. 'I'he rod II is Xed in its adjusted position with the shoe by means of a nut and washer I2. The rod II is provided with ats I3 to adapt it to receive a working tool to turn it and is provided at opposite ends with threads directed in opposite directions. For example, if the threads I 4 are right hand, then the threads I are left hand threads. The upper end of a support rod II is in threaded engagement with a stay rod fork II and secured in adjusted position with respect thereto by a nut I 1. It will be seen that the upper ends of the arm of the stay rod fork I6 are cut away at substantially a 20 angle as at I8. I provide two intermediate support rods which receive the side rails of the frame.
'I'he support rods are adjustable longitudinally of the bed so that they will not be in the Way of the pivot forming means and so that they can be properly positioned beneath the vibratory frame.
In accordance with this invention the periods of vibration can be varied without materially affecting the sensitiveness of the apparatus.
Furthermore I decrease the vibrating mass by decreasing the weight of the table.
It will now be apparent that I have devised a new and useful balancing apparatus which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description, and while I have, in the present instance, shown and described a preferred embodiment thereof, which will give in practice satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that this embodiment is susceptible of modification in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent isz- 1. In a balancing apparatus, a bed, vibration members on the bed, a vibratory frame on the vibration member, stay rod forks to engage the side rails of the frame and having their upper ends angularly cut away, support rods connected With said stay rod forks, and means to secure said support rods with respect to the bed.
2. In a balancing apparatus, a bed, vibration members on the bed, a vibratory frame carried by said vibration members and having side rails connected with said vibration members, forks to receive the side rails of said frame, base members xed to said bed, shoes longitudinally adjustable on said base members, and support rods connected with said forks and shoes, said forks, shoes and support rods having means contributing to vary the effective distance between the forks and shoes.
3. In a balancing apparatus, a bed, a frame, vibratory members at opposite ends of the bed forming the main support of said frame, auxiliary supports adjustable along the bed between said vibratory members and engaging only the-under face of the'frame, and pivot forming means on the bed and cooperating with said frame to form a right hand or left hand xed pivot for vibratory movements of the frame without carrying the load of the frame.
4. In a balancing apparatus, a bed., a vibratory frame having side raiis, Vibratory members fixed at opposite ends of the bed and forming the main support of the frame, auxiliary supports adjustable along the bed between said members and having forks at their upper ends to embrace only a portion of the lower halves of the side rails, and
pivot locking means along the bed between the 10 vibration members.
