IMPROVEMENT IN POCKET-GOBLETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 212,221, dated February 11, 1879; application tiled January 9, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. HAZELTON, of Birmingham, in the county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Pocket-Goblet, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to an improvement in telescopic or folding drinking-cup, and the object thereof is to provide the said article a stand by which it can be given the appearance of a goblet and also closed and held together in a compact form when out of use.
It consists in providing the upper end of the stem with a'threaded stud, which engages a threaded hole in the bottom of the cup, so that when in use the cup is provided with a stand like a goblet, but when out of use and closed the bottom of the stand is used to cover the mouth of the cup, and by means of the screw-stud on the stem the sections of the cup are held together, allowing the cup to be packed into a small space.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of myimproved cup open and adapted for use, and Fig. 2 is a section of the same closed.

Referring to the drawing, A B C D are the several sections of a telescopic or folding drinking-cup, to the latter of which is fixed aflange bottom, a. In the center of the bottom is a hole fitted with a threaded bushing, b.
The cup is provided with a stand composed of a stem, 0, rising from a foot, (I, like an ordinary wine glass or goblet. The upper end of the stem is provided with a threaded stud, c.
When the cup is out of use, and it is wished to place it in the pocket or in any receptacle, the sections are telescoped together, the stand taken from under the bottom, and-in a reversed position placed in the cup with the foot covering the mouth of the upper section. The stud is then screwed in until the foot presses upon the rim, thus connecting the top and bottom together securely, making a compact little box of the cup, that can be stowed away in the pocket. The cup, when thus arranged, is shown in Fig. 2.
When it is to be used the stand is to be unscrewed and placed in an upright position, as shown in Fig. 1, the stud being screwed into the bottom thus furnishing a stand for the cup and giving it the appearance of a goblet or wine glass.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent As an improvement in telescopic or folding cups, formed 'of sections A B C D, the stand formed of a stem, 0, and foot d, the stem being provided with a threaded stud, e, which engages the threaded bushing b in the bottom of the cup, in combination with the said Seetional telescopic or folding cup, substantiallyas described.
