Description
June 28, 1938. E. MARSICO ET AL TOY Filed Feb. 18, 1938 Patented June 28, 1938 TOY Ernesto Marsico and Albino Albini, Vandergrift, Pa.
Application February 18, 1938, Serial No. 191,318
5 Claims.
This invention relates to an amusement device, the general object of the invention being to provide a device which can be manipulated to make a clapping noise and to ring a bell and also 5 to cause a figure representing a bird to make various movements.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction, combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:-
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the device.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the device taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of a portion of the top member.
In this drawing, the numeral l indicates a base member of fiat construction and having a rectangular part and 'a substantially semi-circular part, the free end of the rectangular part being beveled on its upper face as shown at 2. A hollow handle 3 has its upper end fastened to the rectangular part. An intermediate flat member 4 is located on the rectangular part and an upper fiat member 5 is located on the intermediate member. Upper and lower rods 6 extend from grooves formed in the intermediate member, adjacent one end thereof and these rods are suitably held in the grooves. A groove 1 is formed in the upper face of the base member, adjacent the beveled part thereof and receives the lower rod and a groove 8 is formed in the under face of the top member and receives the upper rod. The adjacent end of. this top member is recessed, as at 9, on its under face. A coiled spring i is fastened to the top member and passes through a hole H in the intermediate member and extends into the bore of the handle. The lower end of the spring is fastened to a screw l2, the threaded part of which projects from the handle where it receives a washer l3 and a winged nut 14. Thus by turning the nut the tension of the spring can be adjusted.
A spherical shaped bell casing I is fastened to the top member and contains the usual ball [6 so that movement of the casing will produce a tinkling noise.
A figure representing a bird I! is connected to a coiled spring l8 which is fastened to the arcuate part of. the base member.
The outer end of the intermediate part is spaced inwardly from the adjacent ends of the top and base members.
By pressing upon the outer end of the top member, said member will rock on the upper rod and thus be lifted off the intermediate member and upon further movement of the top member the intermediate member will rock on the lower rod and be lifted off the base member, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. Then by releasing the top member the spring will cause the upper member to strike the intermediate member and the intermediate member to strike the base member and thus produce a clapping noise. The movement of the device will also cause the bell to ring and the bird to move. In certain positions of the bird it will be struck by one of the members 4 and 5 which, of course, will produce movements of. the bird.
The top member is preferably of the shape shown in Fig. 2 and the device is colored with the designs shown to add to the attractiveness thereof. By adjusting the spring the noise made by members can be increased or decreased as desired.
The entire device, excepting the metal parts is preferably made of wood.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction, combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided such changes fall within the scope of. the appended claims.
What we claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the class described comprising a base member, a handle depending therefrom, an intermediate member supported for rocking movement on the base member, a top member supported for rocking movement on the intermediate member, and spring means for holding the members together.
2. A device of the class described comprising a base member, a handle depending therefrom, an intermediate member supported for rocking movement on the base member, a top member supported for rocking movement on the intermediate member, spring means for holding the members together, and a bell on the top member.
3. A device of the class described comprising a base member, a handle depending therefrom, an intermediate member supported for rocking movement on the base member, a top member supported for rocking movement on the intermediate member, spring means for holding the members together, a bell on the top member, a figure, and a resilient member connecting the figure to the base member.
1. A device of the class described comprising a fiat base member, a flat intermediate member and a flat top member, a hollow handle depending from the base member, a spring connected with the top member and passing through the intermediate member into the handle, adjustable means for connecting the spring to the handle, a fulcrum member between the intermediate member and the base member, and a fulcrum member between the intermediate member and the top member.
5. A device of the class described comprising a flat base member, a fiat intermediate member and a fiat top member, a hollow handle depending from the base member, a spring connected to the top member and passing through the intermediate member into the handle, adjustable means for connecting the spring to the handle, a fulcrum member between the intermediate member and the base member, a fulcrum member between the intermediate member and the top member, a bell on the top member, a figure, and a spring connecting the figure to the base member.
