Description

DEVICE FOR THE SHARPENING OF RAZOR BLADES Filed No 28, 1936 Jos MEDELLINT Patented June 21, 1938 1" fOFFlfIE DEVICE FOR THE SHARPENING OF RAZOR BLADES Jose Medellin T, San Luis Potosi, Mexico I Application November 28, 1936, Serial No. 113,119 In Mexico February 22, 1936 3 Claims.
Thepresent invention refers to a device for the sharpening of razor blades, different from the ones known up to the present time due to the fact that mine is constituted of simpler and smaller is also ground and slightly burnished for thepurpose of sharpening the edges'of the razor blades upon the latter rubbing against the said face whether with movements effected in a longitudinal direction or upwards and downwards. The concave formof the sharpener element has for its.object that of permitting the contact of the edgesof the blades Which are going to be sharpened to maintain an adequate angular relation, as this is the essential characteristic for the obtainment of a keen cutting edge and effective stropping; 2, 2, are the perforations through which the pivots 3, 3, pass, of'Figure 2, which serve as a clasp upon one sheet becoming coupled to another. Figure 2 is a conventional perspective View of the metal sheet which serves as a cover or' cap that when coupled to the sharpener sheet is not in service and is transformedtogether with the sharpener piece 'in a pocket case; 3, 3, are two pivots or salient pieces which serve both for receiving and sustaining the blade holder 4 as well as to fasten together with pressure being exercised in the center of both sheets when coupled together they form a pocket case. To open same, one of the projecting ends of the level plate is pressed downblade, and 8 isla salient piece that engages in the hole of the center of the blade and which has for its object that of preventing the latter from having play or from slipping upon its being held with two fingers of the hand against the concave face of the sharpener element, and in this manner obtaining also the friction movement effected at an adequate and uniform angle. At
both ends of the plate or metal sheet sharpener and on the exterior part of same there projects a slight fold which forms a rim or flange on each end, these flanges or rims having for their object that of giving firmness to the sharpener when the device restson a table or level surface, at the moment of being used. 5
The manner of using the sharpener of my invention, is as followsz-The razor blade is placed inside of the holding device of same, as illus trated in Figure 3, and with only one hand and two fingers of same the latter are sustained on the blade that is already held and placed in the bladeholder'against the sharpener face, effecting movements in a longitudinal direction and also downwards and upwards.
The lubricating element, after a periodical 15 feeding of oil will always maintain the sharpener surface adequately oiled as well as theedges of the razor blades, by the mere contact that the former has with it when the entire apparatus is closed.
I know that prior to my invention there have existed different devices for the sharpening of razor blades, some of them having rotating mechanisms and others having only simple pieces of glass, but none of them were of small size and of extra-level form for carrying in the vest pocket or adapted to razor cases; and the sharpener device of my invention has also the characteristic of being easily handled and of sharpening the blades at an adequate angle. Therefore, I claim as mine:
1, A razor blade sharpener adapted to support a thin cover and comprising a transversely arcuate uninterrupted strip of thin metal having its concaveside constructed and arranged as a blade sharpening surface,'said surface being a continuous segmental concavo-cylindrical surface, a flat cover plate of thin metal adapted to engage the longitudinal edges of said arcuate strip, and a pair of headed prongs projecting from the plate in spaced relation on the longitudinal median line of the plate, said strip having spaced openings on its median line to receive and releasably hold said prongs whereby to hold the plate and strip together.
2 A razor blade sharpener adapted to support a thin cover and comprising a transversely arouate uninterrupted strip of thin metal having its concave side constructed and arranged as a blade sharpening surface, said surface being a continuous segmental concavo-cylindrical surface, a fiat cover plate of thin metal adapted to engage the longitudinal edges of said arcuate strip, a pair of headed prongs projecting from the plate in spaced relation on the longitudinal me- 55 dian line of the plate, said strip having spaced openings on its median line to receive and releasably hold said prongs whereby to hold the plate and strip together, an open lubricant holder on the face of the cover plate adapted to confront the arcuate strip, and a lubricating pad in said holder contacting and lubricating said strip upon closing of the plate on the strip.
3. A razor blade sharpener adapted. to support a thin cover and comprising a transversely arouate uninterrupted strip of thin metal having its.
concave side constructed and arranged as a blade sharpening surface, said surface being a contin-
