Description

Patented June 14, 1938 l UNITED STATESV PATENT ori-ICE coasu'r Greta. Raynor, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Application my 11, 1937, serial No. 141,96
` s claim. ici. z-ss) My invention relates to improvements in corone of my corsets in place, showing a fragsets. mentary view o! the wearer in a sitting posture The present-day, fashionable corset has in and also, the positions of the lower parts of the View the elimination of the hips as a prominent rear of the corset in dotted lines when the same feature of the womans figure, and endeavors is open. 5
' to reduce the shape of the body from beneath the Similar characters refer to similar parts breasts to the lower parts of the thighs to as throughout.
'nearly a cylindrical form as possible. To attain With more particular reference to designated this end a. sleeve-shape ,garment of non-elastic parts: In the corset I the transverse dotted lines cloth is provided and stii'fenedI with flexible ribs 6 indicate the upper end of the ribbed, restric- 10 but having no openings in its walls. When dontive part of the garment and the bottom end of ning this corset, the wearer steps into the same the looser-fitting waist on the upper end of and pulls it up to the desired location. For a which are the shoulder Straps 1, 1. A vertical, woman of medium stoutness of figure, the propcentral opening is made in the rear or back er size of corset for fashionable wear is so small, part of the corset extending from the bottom 15, relatively, that extreme force is required to draw thereof to near the top of the corset proper and 'it up to the proper location. When in place, it below the said lines 6. On the edges of this holds the abdomen and hips in a vice-like grip opening are fastened the parts of a Zipper 8 which makes bending of the body at the hips having the operating slide 9,l the pivoted flap zo diilicult and attended by added discomfort. No 9! and the ribbon finger hold I0. At the top 2o 'provision is made in the corset construction for end of the Zipper Is ,the fastening stop Il. opening or adjusting the same when it becomes A short distance below the upper end of the desirable for the wearer thereof to attend to the Zipper is the elastic band' I2 which is disnaturai eliminative functions of her body, which posed across the said corset opening and has its g5 are thus made impossiblel both by the extreme ends fastened to the inside of the corset. as best 25 pressure to which the eliminativeorgans are subshown in-Fig. 2. A short distance above the botjected and their being covered by the bottom tom end of the said opening is the elastic band end of the corset. I3, I4 which is disposed across the opening with The inconvenience of disrobing and removing its ends fastened to the inside of the corset as 3o the corset often induces its wearer to inhibit shown in Fig. 2. Preferably, the lower band is 30 the eliminative urges, possibly, to her injury; divided into the parts I3 and Il which may be and, in extreme instances, to forcibly roll up joined with the hooks I5 engaged in the eyes the lower end of the garment to the injury of its or bars I6 for conveniently opening and closing Stilening ribs. the said band. In Fig. 1 the two parts of the 'Ihe object of my invention is to provide an elastic band I3, Il and the elastic band I2 are 35 opening in the lower end of the back of the cor- `-on the interior wall of the back of the corset set for use when `donning the garment. when and their relative locations in Fig. 1 are shown requiring relief from its'pressure and to expose by breaking away y'portions of the corset wall. ports of the body Covered thereby. Hooks and eyes IS, I6 are fastened on the adja- 40 Another object of my invention is to provide cent ends of the two parts of the band I3, 4I4 40 closing means for an opening in a tight-fitting to vretain the same together. In Fie. 3 these corset which are convenient to operateI and efhooks and eyes are disengaged, which, together fective to retain the said opening closed when with the disengaged Zipper 3, entirely unfasdesired. tens the lower part of the corset back, separat- I attain these and other objects of my invening the edges of the parts 5*, 5*. 45
tion with the mechanism illustrated in the ac- In Fig. 4,a fragmentary portion of a womans companyins sheet of drawing. which forms a body A is shown 1n a sitting posture clothed with part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a a corset i, the bottom end of the c'orset being rear elevation cf a corset`having my improvebeneath the body. By moving the fZipper slide ments in operative place thereon, Fig. 2 is a rear from its bottom to its top position at 9' and 50 view of Fig. 1 in which the corset has been disengaging the hooks I5 the lower end of the turned inside out, Fig. 3 is the same view as Fig. corset is unfastened and the parts 5B are forced l with the lower part of the rear of the corset apart by the relieved muscles to their dotted oven and the edges of the opening therein rolled position at I", Y', while the stretched band I2 I outward. and Fig. 4 is a rear persperiive view of is shown in dotted lines at I2', the Zipper hooks 55 at l'. I' and the band Il, It at |3214', thuscompletely uncovering the bottom of the trunk of the body A. The elastic band i2 will retain the corset in place and,to again fasten the parts 5l, 5* together and recompress the muscles referred to, the hooks and eyes on the severed` band i3, Il are engaged and the Zipper" slide 8 is drawn down to the bottom end of the corset.
The employment of the elastic bands I2 and I3, Il, is necessary to reinforce the holding power of the Zipper" which, otherwise, would be forced apart and opened after being closed, or prevented from being closed, by the resistance of the muscles within the corset to being compressed within the confines of the corset.
It is evident that the severed parts of the e1as tic band I3, Il may be of unequal length; or the band need 'not be severed but have one end fastened on the corset wall on one side of the opening and the other end hooked to the corset wall on the other side of the opening. Nevertheless, I prefer the construction shown because it provides a good linger hold for each of the flaps Having thus disclosed my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,-
i. A corset having an opening in the back extended to the bottom thereof, a Zipper fastener on the edges of the said opening, and an elastic band having its ends fastened on the inside wall of the corset disposed acrossthe said opening to reinforce the holding power of the said vZipper" fastener.
2. A corset having an opening in theA back 'extended to the bottom thereof, a Zipper fasten- .er on the edges of the said opening to hold the same together, a plurality of elastic bands having their ends fastened to the inner wall of the corset transversely of the said opening to rein" GRETA RAYNER.
