be returned to its normal position as indicated in Figs. 1 and 4, and in such position will serve as a temporary closure in the event that it is desired not to replace the cover member 2.

In Fig. 5 I have shown a modication, in which the pad of napkins 6 is attached to an upper marginal edge o-f the container body l by two cooperating strips of tape l5 and I6; the inner faces of the said tapes being adhesively secured at one edge to the respectively opposite sides of the pad 6 and at the other edge to the respectively opposite edges of the upper marginal side wall of the container l in the manner clearly indicated. In this embodiment the marginal edges of the sheets comprising the pad are preferably secured together by stitching' il which also provides for ready severance of the individual sheets from the pad.

Having thus described my invention with particularity with reference to its preferred form, it will be obvious to those skilled in the art, after understanding my invention, that other changes and modifications may be made therein'witho-ut departing `from the spirit and scope of my invention, and I aim in the appended claims to cover such changes and modifications as are within the scope of the invention.

What I claim is:

l. In a combined shipping and serving conw tainer for a plurality of pieces of comestibles, the combination of a container body, a closure for said body, a resilient pad adapted to overlie the contents of said body and positioned beneath said closure, said pad comprising a plurality of napkins individually removable for use, and means for pivotally supporting said pad along one edge adjacent the upper edge of a side wall of said body.

2. In a combined shipping and serving container for a plurality of pieces of comestibles, the combination of a container body, a closure adapted for telescoping engagement with said body, a resilient pad adapted to fit within the side walls of said body and to overlie the contents of said body and positioned beneath said closure, said pad comprising a plurality of napkins individually removable for use, and means for pivotally supporting said pad along one edge adjacent the upper edge of a side wall of said body.

In a device of the character described, the combination of a container body, a plurality of paper napkins in superimposed stacked relation, spaced-apart clamping means serving to hold said napkins in pad formation, cooperating spaced-apart clamping means secured to the upper edge of one side of said body, and means for hingedly connecting said two pad clamping means to said second clamping means, whereby said pad may be readily selectively positioned within or without said body.

In a device of the character described, the combination of a container body, closure means adapted for interltting cooperative engagement with said body, a plurality of paper napkins in superimposed stacked relation, spaced-apart clamping means serving to hold said napkins adjacent one marginal edge thereof in pad formation, cooperating spaced-apart clamping means secured to the upper edge of one side of said body, and means for hingedly connecting said two pad clamping means to said second clamping means, said clamping and connecting means permitting said closure means to pass readily thereover to close said container and serving to position said pad closely adjacent the under side of said cover intermediate the same and the container contents.

5. A receptacle for holding comestibles to be dispensed therefrom comp-rising a container body, a pad comprising a plurality of paper napkin sheets secured together along one edge and permitting removal therefrom of individual of said napkins, and means for hingedly securing said pad adjacent an upper side wall edge of said body, said last means permitting said pad to be selectively positioned within the said body over the contents to serve as a packing pad and to be removed therefrom-and folded outside to permit ready access to said contents for removal.

6. In a receptacle for containing pieces of comestible to be eaten from the lingers and which are to be dispensed directly from said receptacle, the combination of a body for holding said comestible, a plurality of paper napkins secured together along one edge to thereby constitute a pad, means for hingedly attaching said napkins adjacent said secured edge to an upper portion of said body, a closure adapted for intertting engagement with said body and serving to enclose ,said pad, said attachment means permitting said pad of napkins to lie between the inner face of said closure and over the contents of said body to protect said comestible pieces during transportation and permitting said pad of napkins to be removed from said body and folded outwardly to provide ready access to the contents of said body for removal of the comestibles therefrom, and said napkin securing means permitting ready separation of individual napkins from said pad, whereby said pad serves the dual function of a packing pad and as a source of napkins for use by those to whom the contents are dispensed. l
