This invention relates to certain vimprovements in draft apparatus for fine spinning frame of the type in which a sliver moves vertically in the direction of theaxis of a spindle arranged in a vertical direction.
The object of the invention is to provide a draft apparatus of simple construction characterized by reduction in size of the spinning frame and which is more advantageous to spinning operation.
The accompanying drawing illustrates an em bodiment of the invention by way of example, in which:
Fig. 1 is a partial vertical sectional view of a ne spinning frame showing one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar view to Fig. l, illustrating a modification.
Referring to Fig. 1, the numerals I, 2, 3 and 4, 5, 6 and I', 2', 3' and 4'-, 5', 6' represent drafting rollers respectively arranged in opposition on either side of the machine frame 9, I0; I and 1' represent shafts secured tothe roller stand 8 mounted on the machine frame 9, Ill; II and II represent bell cranks pivotally mounted on the shafts I and 'I' respectively.
The bell crank II is formed at the end of one arm with a, hook on which one end of the press rod I5'of the presser or saddle I1 on the righthand side is connected. To the end of the other arm of the bell crank is connected a manually operated link I2 having a ball I8 and a stopper I6 at the ends respectively. The ball I8 of the link I2 is in engagement with a recess provided at the lower end of a telescopic cylindrical case I3 in which a spring (not shown) is arranged. The case I3 is also provided at the upper end with a recess adapted to engage with a ball I4 secured to the machine frame 9. In the position shown in Fig. 1, the spring in the case I3 will act to turn the link I2 in a clockwise direction, but the link can not be turned, as the stopper I6 is in engagement with the bell crank I I, and consequently the spring willbe in a compressed position. The bell crank II will, therefore, tend to be turned on the shaft l by action of the spring, and the press rod I5 will be tensioned substantially in ahorizontal direction by the hooked end of one arm of the bell crank, whereby the pressing action of the presser at the right-hand side is accomplished. To release the tension of the presser or saddle, it will be-suflcient to turn the link I2 in a counterclockwise direction, then the spring in the case I3 is released from its compressed position and the -bell crank II is releasedfrom the action of theA spring to release the pressing action of the presser or saddles.
As the draft apparatus are similarly but oppositely arranged with respect to the center of the machine frame, description of the right-hand end need not be repeated for the left-hand end, but it is to be noted that the arrangement for` the left-hand side is shown in the drawing as being in a position in which the pressing action of the presser or saddle on the outer rollers is released.
Fig. 2 shows a modification, in which the link I2 is' pivotally mounted on a bracket I9 secured to the machine frame 9, .and no further description of other parts will be needed, as these are similar' to corresponding parts in Fig. l.
According to the invention, each of the drafting apparatus arranged in opposition on either side of the machine frame can be provided with an individual presser, and consequently the drafting apparatus on one side can be stopped when an accident occurs, or if necessary during spinning operation, independently of the drafting apparatus on the other side. Furthermore, the pressing force on the presser acts substantially in a horizontal direction, that is, a right-angled direction to a vertical drafting direction. This is most desirable in a drafting apparatus of a vertical type to ensure a smooth feeding of yarn and to lessen accidents which may occur due to the breaking of yarn. Furthermore, the apparatus is considerably simplified, and the size of the spinning frame can be reduced, as the space, particularly the space between two sides of the machine frame in a horizontal directioncan be reduced, the horizontal pressing action being derived from a source vertically arranged in a direction of the vertical axis of the spindle in the same direction as the sliver. Still further, as the apparatus can easily be arranged so as not to extend into the intermediate space of the machine frame below the delivery rollers 3, 6 and 3', 6' shown in the drawing, the cleaners of the delivery luted rollers 3 and 3' can be removed and replaced without interfering with the apparatus, advantageously to the spinning operation.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature o f my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I claim: i
1. In combination with a fine spinning frame in which the slivers are drawn vertically in relation to the axes of vertically arranged spindles, of a drafting apparatus comprising, in combination, a roller stand secured to the frame, a vertically arranged inner row of feed rollers carried by the stand, a vertically arranged outer row of rollers carried by the stand, saddles bearing on the outer rollers, a lever pivotally mounted on the stand inwardly of said rollers, a rod connecting the saddles to said lever, spring means interposed between the stand and said lever, and an operative connection between said spring means and the lever, said connection comprising manually operated means interposed between the lever and the spring means and operable to transmit the action of the latter to tension the saddles on the outer rollers.
2. In a fine spinning frame according to claim 1,-in which the spring means interposed between the stand and the lever and operatively connected to said lever comprises, a pair of telescopic members, a compression spring interposed between the members, one of the members being pivotally mounted on the stand and the other member having an operative connection with said lever, said operative connection comprising a manually operated link interposed between the lever and said other telescopic member and operable to compress the spring to transmit the action'of the latter to tension the saddles on the outer rollers.
3. In combination with a ne spinning frame l in which the slivers are drawn vertically in relation to the axes of vertically arranged spindles, of a drafting apparatus comprising, in combination, a roller stand secured to the frame, a vertically arranged inner row of rollers carried by the stand, a'vertically arranged outer row of rollers carried by the stand, a saddle bearing on the outer rollers, a bell crank lever pivotally mounted on the stand and disposed inwardly of the rollers,
said lever having vertical and laterally arranged arms, spring means interposed between the stand and the lateral arm of said lever and operatively connected to the laterally arranged arm of the lever, a rod connecting the saddle to the vertical arm of the lever, said spring means comprising a pair of telescopic members and a compression spring interposed between the members, one of said telescopic members being pivotally mounted 0n the stand, said operative connection between the spring means and the lateral arm of the lever comprising a manually controlled link interposed between the other telescopic member and the lateral arm of the lever and operative .to compress said spring and transmit the action of the latter through said bell crank lever and rod connection to tension the saddle on the outer rollers.
4. In a ne spinning frame according to claim 3, in which the vvertically disposed arm of said bell crank lever is formed with a hook-shaped end portion, and the rod connecting the saddle of the outer rollers to said vertical arm is formed to provide a releasable connection-with said hookshaped end portion.
5. In combination with a ne spinning frame in which the slivers are drawn vertically in relation to the axes of vertically disposed spindles arranged on opposite sides of the frame comprising, in combination, a roller stand secured to the frame two sets of drafting apparatus carried by the roller stand and disposed on opposite sides of the frame, each of said drafting apparatus comprising, a vertically arranged inner row of feed rollers carried by the stand, a vertically arranged outer row of feed rollers carried by the stand, a saddle bearing on the outer rollers of each drafting apparatus, a bell crank lever for each of said apparatus pivotally mounted on the stand inwardly of the rollers and disposed adjacent to the drafting apparatus arranged on the opposite sides of the frame, the bell crank lever of each drafting apparatus having vertical and laterally disposed arms, spring means interposed between the stand and the lateral arm of each of said levers, and an operative connection between the laterally-disposed arm of each of said levers and the spring means, a rod connecting the saddle of each drafting apparatus to the vertical arm of each of the levers, said spring means being disposed intermediate the pivotal connection of the bell crank and the drafting rollers of each drafting apparatus, the operative `connection with the laterally disposed arm of each of said levers transmitting the action of the spring means through the bell crank levers and rods to tension the saddles on the outer rollers of each drafting apparatus.
