(01. zen-23a) This invention relates to refrigeration and more particularly to a refrigerating system in which the motor and compressor are assembled as a unit within a resonant casing.
An object of this invention is to provide proper heat dissipating means for the motor-compressor but in such a manner that, undue noises heretofore produced in units of this kindare obviated. f
Further objects and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, wherein a preferred form oi the present invention is clearly shown.

A refrigerating system embodying featuresof my invention comprises in general amotor-compressor unit iiil, which delivers compressed refrigerant to a condenser II, where the refrigerant is liquefied and from whence it passes through ,the line i2 to an' evaporator i3 through an expansion device it, in which evaporator the refrigerant is evaporated and returns through the iineli to the unit l0.

'The fins are provided with vibration damping means to prevent the noise producing vibrations which exist in these fins, the action of which has hitherto been undiscovered. The vibration unit of the system 'in the form of fins,
i1 within a hermetic damping means may be in the form of wooden strips 24 bridging the extremities of the fins. A convenient form of strip is one having notches 25 at opposite sides through which the ends of the flanges 23 and 23' may pass while the strips 24 are being driven longitudinally between the flanges. Thus, the fins 2!, 2l( together with the strips 24 form non-resonant heat radiating means for the compressor.
In operation the'heat of the motor-compressor unit is dissipated through the fins'2l and 2i by air passing upwardly along and between the fins. The action of the motor and compressor is such that vibrations, in units not embodying my invention, are created on these fins, particularly if such in order to reduce their cost. These vibrations, I find are very effectively dampened by the use of the wooden strips as heretofore described and thus the quietness ofthe unit is very materially enhanced.
While the form tion as herein disclosed, constitutes a preferred form it is to be understood that other forms might be adopted. all coming within the scope of the claims which follow.
What is claimed is as follows:
1. A motor-compressor unit'for refrigerating systems and the like having a motor, a compressor, a hermetically sealed casing around said motor and compressor, radially directed fins on said casing, said fins having flanges directed towards each other at their outer extremity, and vibration damping means said flanges.
2. A motor-compressor unit having a motor, a compressor, a cylindrical hermetically sealed casing'around said motor and compressor, radially directed fins parallel to the axis of said cas-- ing disposed'about the periphery of said casing, and wooden members bridging the outer extremities of said fins.

vibration damping means for said fins formed of non-resonant material bridging said flanges and maintaining said fins under permanent stress.

A motor-compressor unit having, a motor, a compressor, a cylindrical hermetically sealed casing around said motor and compressor, radially directed fins parallel to the axis of said casing disposed about the periphery of said casing, said fins having tangentially disposed flanges forming the outer extremities of said fins, and
members bridging the outer extremities of said fins, said members comprising non-resonant material.

A motor-compressor unit having a motor, a compressor, a cylindrical hermetically se ed casing around said motor and compressor, radially directed fins parallel to the axis of said casing disposed about the periphery of said casing, said fins having tangentially disposed flanges forming the outer extremities of said fins, and members bridging the outer extremities oi said fins,-
said members comprising material having a resonance different from the material of said fins.
9. A motor-compressor unit having a motor, a compressor, a cylindrical hermetically sealed casing around said motor andcompressor, radially directed fins parallel to the'axis of said casing disposed about the periphery of said casing, and non-metallic members bridging the outward extremities of said fins.

A motor-compressor unit having a motor, a compressor, a cylindrical hermetically sealed casing around said motor and compressor, radially directed fins parallel to the axis of said casing disposed about the periphery of said casing, said fins having tangentially disposed flanges forming the outer extremities of said fins, and non-metallic members bridging the outerextremities of said fins, v 11.
