RIB WAR-P FRADIE 'Herbert Wirth, Hartmannsdorf, near Chemnitz, Germany, assignor to the firm Emil Wirth Wirkmaschinenfabrik, Chemnitz, Germany Hartmannsdorf, near Application October 20, 1936, Serial No. 106,621.
Renewed January 13, 1938. In Germany October 29, 1935 7 Claims. (0!. 66-87) I This would require an exchange of the cam mechanism. The two lap movements must be performed in the period of time which in the operation of the machine is provided for performing the path necessary for producing fabrics in atlas lap. fie device according to the invention allows the production of fabrics in simple atlas lap as well as in plating and similar laps 0 on double rib warp frames or the like.
According to the invention the production of fabrics in the different kinds of lap is possible by the fact, that the cams required for the fabric production in atlas lap as well as in plating laps are provided in the machine.
A clutch or the like arranged upon the shaft carrying the guide needle machines allows the transfer of the eifect of the one or the other cam mechanism upon the guide needle machines. By means of the clutch or the like, the device for producing fabrics in atlas lap is manually or automatically rendered inoperative and simul taneously the plating tackle is positively rendered operative and vice versa.
In the same period of time in which, when producing fabrics in atlas lap, the guide needle machines once swing between the spring beard needles' in each row, the guide needle machine or both guide needle machines twice swing between the spring beard needles on producing fabrics in plating laps.
The double lap for producing fabrics in platlng or the like laps must be efiected in the period of the time provided in the operation of the machine for performing the path necessary for the production of fabrics in atlas lap. To gain thcr time for carrying out the double lap, the rib warp frame may also beso constructed, that during this period of time the operation of the. machine is retarded. v
In the accompanying .drawings a construction according to the invention is diagrammatically shown by way of example. v
In these drawings: v

which come into consideration for the purposes of the invention,
Fig. 2 shows a section through the clutch device,
Fig. 3 is a side view of the clutch device shown in the direction of the arrow :1: in Fig. 2,
Fig. 4 illustratesa'view of an additional mech anism for changing the operating speed during the time provided for performing the lap path,
Fig. 5 is a section on the line V-V of Fig. 4, and
device illustrated in Fig. 4. g
In the frame of the machine, not shown on the drawings, the cam shafts l and 2 are journalled in a well known manner. Upona shaft 3 guide needle. machines I, carryingguide needles 5, are pivotally mounted. Rib. warp 'frameshitherto Fig. G'shows another operative position of the were provided with a cam fixed upon a cam shaft by means of which the guide needle machines were actuated. This cam was of such construction as to allow the required lap movements to be carried out. The useof this lap device, however, allowed carrying only, i. e., atlas lap.
Pivotally mounted upon a bolt or pivot 6 is a lever 1 adapted to be moved by a lap cam, not shown in the drawings. Pivoted upon the shaft 2, carrying theguide needle machines 4, is a lever 8 movements of which in the longitudinal direcbut of one kind of lap tion of the shaft 3 are prevented by means of set collars 9 and it. At one side the hub ll of-the lever 8 'is provided with clutch teeth 12. By means of a pivot or bolt l3 one end of a link it is pivotally connected to the lever I, while the other end of this link carries a pivotor bolt I! engaging a longitudinal slot It provided in an arm l'l forming part of the lever l actuated by the lap cam mechanism.
Fixed upon the cam shaft 2 is an eccentric gear wheel or an elliptic toothed wheel I8 which engages an eccentricgear wheel'20 mounted upona pivot or a rotatable shaft V IS. The latter also carriesja gear wheel 2| engaging a gear wheel f Fixed upon the shaft 22 is a cam, not shown in the drawings, which actuates a cam lever 24 mounted upon a pivot 25. The cam lever 24 is provided I with a projection 26 which carries a bolt of pivot 21. One end on link 28 is attached to this pivot v 21, while the other end of the link is, by means of a pivot .0; bolt 29, pivotally connected to a lever 30. The latter is, in a manner similar to the lever 8, loosely mountedupon the shaft 3.
Setcollars 3| and 32 prevent movements of the lever 38 in the longitudinal direction of the shaft 3. At one side the hub 33 of the lever 38 carries clutch teeth 34.
Between the two levers 8 and 38 carried by the shaft 3 a clutch element 35, provided with clutch teeth 36 and 31, is mounted upon this shaft 3. The clutch teeth l2 carried by the hub ll of the lever 8 as well as the clutch teeth 34 on the hub 33 of the lever 38 are provided at the sides of the hubs II and 33 facing the clutch element 35.
The latter is connected to the shaft 3 by means of a wedge 38. The clutch-element 35 may, however, be shifted in the longitudinal direction of the shaft 3 for which purpose a rod 38 is provided. By shifting the clutch element-35 either its teeth 36 may be brought into engagement with the teeth l2 on the hub ll of the lever 8, or its teeth 31 may be brought into engagement with the teeth 34 on the hub 33 of the lever 30.
The spring beard needles are designated with 48 and the sinkers are shown at 4|.
If the teeth l2 are coupled to the teeth 35, the cam movements are transferred to the shaft 3 by means of the cam lever 1 and the lever and link system l1, l4, 8. The guide needle machine or the guide needle machines 4 then perform the movement required for the production of fabrics in atlas lap. For the production of such fabrics the guide needles 5 in each row swing once only between the spring beard needles 40.
If the clutch element 35 is shifted by means of the rod 38, the clutch teeth l2 and 36 are disengaged and the clutch teeth 31 and 34 are the cam lever 24 and the link 28in such a. manner, that the guide needles 5, carried by the guide needle machines 4, may, as required for the production of fabrics in plating laps, twice swing between the spring beard needles 4!! in the period of time available for performing the path of the atlas lap.
By means of the elliptic gear wheel l8 and th eccentric wheel 28, the cam shaft 22 is correspondingly faster rotated, so that the double lap may be effected in the period of time provided in the operation of the machine for performing the lap path.
To aid this mode of operation a drive may be provided for the two cam shafts-by means of which the speed of rotation of the shafts may be retarded during the period of time available for carrying out the lap movements. Hereby time is gained for the accelerations of the platingcam required for carrying out platings without altering the time for the other movements. Fixed upon the well known drive shafts 42, connected with each other, are gear wheels 43 v and oval-shaped gear wheels having change over gearings 45 and 46 the dimensions of the pitch curves of which change from that of the gear .wheels 43 to that of a smaller portion 44 of the spectively are arranged upon a rim which is greater than that of the main gear wheels 41, the
arrangement being such that the teeth 53, 5|
may engage the smallest portions 44 of the ovalshaped gear wheels. In the direction of rotation, the front and rear portions of the segment 48 are provided with change over teeth 52 and 54 respectively, the pitch circle of'which progressively decreases from that of the teeth 58 to that of the gear wheel 41. In a similar manner, the front and rear portions of the segment 48 are provided with change over teeth 53 and 55 respectively. The portions 56 and 51 of the main gear wheels 41. corresponding to the length of'the segments 48 and 48 respectively are, as shown in Fig. 4, not provided with teeth.
The operation of the frame according to the invention is as foilows:-
In a well known mannerthe rib warp frame isdriven by the gear wheels 43, 41.
The segments 48 and 49 are arranged upon the main gear wheels 41 at the portions corresponding to the lap path and their length corresponds to the length of said path.
If the front end of the segment 48 or 48 i. e., the portion carrying the teeth 52 and 53 respectively comes into contact with the ascending por tion 45 of the oval-shaped gear wheel, as shown in Fig. 6, the engagement of the teeth of the main gear wheel 41 with the teeth of the gear wheel 43 is interrupted, becausethe portions ofthe wheel 41 corresponding to the length of the segments are, as indicated at 56 and 51 (Fig. 4) not provided with teeth. On further rotation the smallest portion 44 of the oval-shaped gear wheel comes into engagement with the teeth or 5| the pitch circle of which is greater than that of the main. gear wheel 41.
Due to the changed ratio of gearing, the rotation of the cam shafts is retarded for the period .of time during which the segments 48 and 48 respectively are operative, so that time for twice swinging the guide needles between the spring beard needles, required for the production of fabrics in plating or similar laps, is gained. The cams may, .due to this arrangement, be constructed in a more advantageous manner.
At the end of the period of the lap path, the gear wheel 43 is, by the engagement of the teeth 54 or 55 with the descending change over portion 46 of the oval-shaped gear wheel, again brought into engagement with the teeth of the main gear wheel 41, so that the rib warp frame operates again with the normal speed of rotation.
