The tacking ofy paper or otherobjects to draw- 5 ing boards, bulletin boards and the like is highly undesirable because of the punching of holes in the surface thereof. lThe continuous vuse of a few sizes 'of paper creates many tack- .holes in the surface of a drawing board at variousvrestricted areas thereof. As drawing boards, bulletin boards orthelike' become honey-combedwith `thumb tack holes', thumb tacks will not be firmly retained thereby which causes a loss of thumb tacks and the loosening of paper tacked thereto.
The main object of this invention is to provide means for securing papers and other objects to drawing boards, bulletin boards and the like which will not injure the working surface of the said boards.
Another object of this invention is to provide paper securing means which may be permanently built into drawing boards, bulletin boards and the like.
Another object of this invention is to provide, in combination with a drawing board or the like, means fixed therethrough for securing paper thereon.
Another object of this invention is to provide, in combination with a drawing board or the like, paper securing thumb screws threaded through apertures in the front of said board into anchorage means xed in the rear thereof, said paper securing screws being replaceable by like screws adapted to ll said apertures and provide a smooth working surface on the front of said board when said paper securing thumb screws are not in use.
Other objects of the invention will become apparent by reference to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanyng drawing, in which:

Referring now to the drawing wherein like numerals refer to like and corresponding lparts* 20 throughout the several views, the preferred embodiment of the invention shown-therein combination with a drawing board or the like Ill comprises, in general, a nut II secured in suitable bore I2 in the rear of said drawing board 25 lil by such means as the setscrew I3, and a paper securing thumbscrew I4 threaded in said nut II from the front of the said board Ill through an aperture I5 therethrough replaceable by a like screw I6 having a rm resilient 30 tapered head I1 which lls said aperture I5 and provides a smooth working surface on the front of said board I0 when said thumbscrew I4 is removed.
The nut II is preferably cylindrical in shape 35 and is centrally bored and threaded to accommodate the threaded thumbscrew I4, the outwardly disposed end of said central bore thereof being deeply countersunk at I8 as shown in Figs. 2 and 5. A wood setscrew I3 positioned through 40 the diagonally disposed countersunk bore I9 extending from the countersink I8 through the side of the nut II engages the board I0 thereby permanently fixing said nut II in the bore I2.
The annular aperture I5 provided through the front of said board I0 is in alignment with and slightly larger than the diameter of the central threaded aperture of the nut II into which the thumb screw I4 may be inserted and turned untilkthe head of said thumbscrew I4 is drawn tightly against the paper 20 as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 for fixing said paper 20 to the board I0.
Any number and arrangement of paper securing means may be used, a typical arrangement being disclosed in Fig. 1 wherein the paper 20 is shown secured to the board III by five thumbscrews I4, said paper 2U being the standard size of sheet adopted in the particular instance. If two standard size sheets are adopted, the smaller sheet of paper indicated by the dotted lines 2I in Fig. l may be secured to the board I0 by four thumbscrews I4, two of which are shown replaced by the fill screws I 6 adapted to fill the aperture I5 through the surface of the board I0 when the larger sheet of paper 20 is being used as indicated in Figs. 1 and 5.
Wherever the thumbscrews I4 need never beY removed, as for example, the thumbscrews I4 around the periphery of the largest standard size drawing paper adopted, the ends thereof may be Y upset by peening as indica-ted by the dotted lines 22 in Fig. 2 to prevent their removal from the board I0. In order to permit said upsetting without possibly splitting the surface of the board I0 above the nut Il, the end of the thumbscrew I4 is lcountersunk to a feather edge as indicated by the numeral 23 in Fig. 4. The head of said thumbscrew I4 is preferably as flat as possible and formed to a feather edge to admit a T- square or triangles to slide over the same, the top of said head thereof being suitably knurled as at 24 to permit said thumbscrew I4 to be turned by frictionally engaging said head thereof by the thumb or finger of the user thereof.
The fill screw I6 as best shown in Fig. 6 comprises a threaded shank having the end portion thereof knurled as at 25 to permit the same to be readily gripped for turning and adjusting. The top of said fill screw I6 is headed as indicated by the numeral 26 over which a tapered stiff yet slightly compressible rub-ber head II is disposed, said rubber head I'I being cemented or otherwise retained on the head 25 of said fill screw I6.
When the ll screw I6 is positioned through the annular aperture I5 in the board Il) and threaded in the nut II, the knurled end 25 of said flll screw I6 extending into the countersink I8 of the nut II may be gripped by the users fingers and turned to accurately level the top of the tapered head I1 thereof with the working surface of the drawing board I 0.
It will be noted that the thumbscrews I4 are so positioned in the board I0 as to engage the paper 20 thereunder without puncturing the same, thereby permitting paper to be secured and removed from the said board as many times as desired without perforating the same. 'I'he invention admits of the use of as large diameter thumbscrew heads as may be required to properly hold the paper or other objects to the board, prevents destruction of the board or paper secured thereto because of honey-combing or perforating the same, and provides means for surfacing the board if desired when thumbscrews are not in use.
Although but one embodiment of the invention has been disclosed and `described herein, it will be understood that various changes including the size, shape, arrangement and details of the various parts thereof may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention, and it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention other than by terms of the appended claim.
I claim:
In combination with a drawing board or the like, paper securing means comprising a nut centrally bored and threaded positioned wholly within said board in a suitable bore in the rear thereof, the exposed end of said nut being countersunk, a diagonally disposed setscrew extending through said nut from the countersunk surface thereof into said board, said board havingy an aperture through the front thereof communicating with said threaded nut, and a thumbscrew for securing paper to the front of said board threaded in said nut.
