ORNAMENTAL ADJUSTEELE SHOULDER STRAP Filed July 21, 1936 INVEN'IZQR x kmearz Jar/Wm I 5- ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 22, 1938 PATENT OFFICE ORNAMENTAL ADJUSTABLE SHOULDER STRAP Herman Silverman, New York, N. Y.
Application July 21,
5 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in an ornamental adjustable shoulder strap.
The invention has for an object the construction of a shoulder strap which is characterized by a looped strap portion having its end attached on a buckle slidable along said strap, and associated with an annular element passing through the loop. It is contemplated to provide an anchorage strap also passing through said annular element, but extending in the opposite direction and which is associated with an ornament.
A further object of this invention is to so arrange the parts that the ornament may be bows of different types, simulations of flowers, or the like.
Still further the invention proposes a construction whereby the shoulder strap may constitute a strip of braid material, fabric material, ribbon material, elastic or nonelastic material, of various widths.
A further object of the invention is to arrange the ornament along the anchorage strap and below the annular element previously" referred to.
Still further the invention proposes a construction which permits the ornament to be adjusted to various positions along the anchorage strap.
Another one of the objects of this invention resides in the provision of a strip of material upon which the ornament is mounted and associated with an adjustable band in a manner so that the strip of material may be extended above the annular element when desired.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.v
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:--
Fig. 1 is a perspective view, showing the application of a pair of ornamental adjustable shoulder straps, constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the shoulder strap.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to a portion of Fig. 2 but illustrating another embodiment of the same invention.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary face view of a strap showing a different ornament attached thereto.
1936, Serial No. 91,651
Figs. 6 and '7 are similar to Fig. 5, showing still further modified ornaments.
Fig. 8 is a front elevational view of another garment showing the application of the ornamental, adjustable shoulder straps. 5
The ornamental adjustable shoulder strap comprises a shoulder strap it) including a looped strap portion Ill having its end Ill attached upon a buckle H which is slidably mounted on the strap l0 and adapted to maintain its position 1 frictionally. Specifically, the buckle includes a transverse central bar Il formed by openings 1 l on theopposite sides of the bar. The end ID of the loop is extended over the bar ll and secured to material of the loop by a line of stitches l5 E2. The loop Ill continues into the strap I0 and is laced through the buckle II as clearly shown in Fig. 2. It extends over the central bar H and beneath the ends of the buckle.
An annular member It passes through the loop portion [0 An anchorage strap is also passes through the annular member I3 but is extended in the opposite direction to the strap 10. This anchorage strap may be secured by lines of stitches It: to the front portion of a garment to be supported. An ornament l6 of any design is associated with the anchorage strap l4. This ornament is in the form of a bow, as may be clearly seen from. an inspection of Fig. 1.
At the rear end the strap I0 is secured to an annular element l8. An auxiliary anchorage strap i9 also passes through the annular element 58 and is adapted to be secured to the back portion of a garment.
The ornament I6 is sewed on a strap 20, the lower end of which is secured by a line of stitches 2! to an endless bar 22 which passes through spaced openings 23 and 24 in one of the layers of the anchorage strap M. The free end of the strap 20 is equipped with a small safety pin or other fastening element 2w by which it is secured to another portion of the band 22. Thus it is possible that the bar 22 be manually shifted in the openings 23 and 24 so as to raise or lower the ornament I6. 5
Furthermore, it is possible to first shift the band 22 so that the fastening element 24 is exposed. Then the fastening element 24 may be opened and the free end of the strap 28 extended upwards over the annular element I3, as indicated by the dot and dash lines 28 in Fig. 2 or 20" in Fig. 3. The fastening element 24' may then secure the strap in this position to the loop por-, tion Ill It will thus be seen that if desired the ornament 16 may be engaged over the lower portion of the strap H).
In Fig. 4 a modified form of the invention has been disclosed which differs from the previous form merely'in the construction of the ornament 16. In this form of the invention the ornament is in the form of a flower bud. In other respects the construction is identical to the prior form and similar parts may be recognized by the same reference numerals.
In Figs. 5, 6, and 7 ornaments I6 I6 and l6 show some of the desirable designs which may be used on the shoulder straps.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications com ing within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. An ornamental adjustable shoulder strap comprising an adjustable shoulder strap including a looped strap portion having its end attached upon a buckle slidable on said strap, an annular element passing through said loop, an anchorage strap formed with apertures and also passing through said annular element but extending in the opposite direction, an ornament associated with said anchorage strap, and an endless band passing through said apertures in said anchorage strap and having said ornament mounted thereon so that the position of said ornament may be changed with relation to the annular element.
2. An ornamental adjustable shoulder strap comprising an adjustable shoulder strap including a looped strap portion having its end attached upon a buckle slidable on said strap, an annular element passing through said loop, an anchorage strap formed with apertures and also passing through said annular element but extending in the opposite direction, an ornament associated with said anchorage strap, and an endless band passing through said apertures in said anchorage strap and having said ornament mounted thereon so that the position of said ornament may be changed with relation to the annular element, said looped strap portion being disposed at the front end of the shoulder strap.
3. An ornamental adjustable shoulder strap comprising an adjustable shoulder strap including a looped strap portion having its end attached upon a buckle slidable on said strap, an annular element passing through said loop, an anchorage strap also passing through said annular element but extending in the opposite direction, and an ornament associated with said anchorage strap, an endless band being engaged through spaced openings in said anchorage strap, a strap being attached on one of its ends upon said endless band and its other end being removably attached upon another portion of said band, and said ornament being mounted upon said latter-mentioned strap.
4. An ornamental adjustable shoulder strap comprising an adjustable shoulder strap including a looped strap portion having its end attached upon a buckle slidable on said strap, an annular element passing through said loop, an anchorage strap also passing through said annular element but extending in the opposite direction, and an ornament associated With said anchorage strap, an endless band being engaged through spaced openings in said anchorage strap, a strap being attached at one of its ends upon said endless band and its other end being removably attached upon another portion of said band, and said ornament being mounted upon said latter-mentioned strap, a fastening element being provided for releasably attaching the free end of said strap so that it may be disconnected from the band and extended upwards over the lower portion of said looped strap portion.
5. In an ornamental adjustable shoulder strap, an adjustable shoulder strap having a control buckle, an anchorage strap connected to said shoulder strap and having spaced apertures, and an endless band passing through said apertures and having an ornament fixedly mounted thereon, whereby said band may be moved to adjust the position of said ornament relative to said buckle.
