IMPROVEMENT IN VEHICLE-SPRINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 210,925, dated December 17,1878; application filed September 30, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LEVI A. DAVIS and AMBRosE L. DAVIS, of the city of Binghamton, county of Broome, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful linprovein cuts in Gears for Vehicles, of which the following is a specification 1 In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a top or plan view of our improvement, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in each drawing.
A A are two bars running parallel with the vehicle-body, and secured to the rear axle, B, and head-block U in substantially the usual manner, either direct, as shown in drawing, or by means of springs.
D D are two elliptical springs, suspended between the axle B and head-block O, and be neath or between the bars A A, by means of the braces E E E E, or their equivalent, connecting the lower half of springs D D with the bars A A. These springs D D, connected with the bars A A, we consider a novelty in spring-wagons, and it forms the essential feature of our invention. These springs D D support the bars or bolsters F F, upon which the wagon-body rests.
The advantage of this arrangement is that we are enabled to use the full elliptical spring in connection with the bars, thereby hanging the vehicle-body as low as is desirable, yet retaining the elasticity of the full elliptical spring, in addition to the bars and end springs when used.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of springs D D and braces E E, or their equivalent, with the bars A A, substantially as and for the purposes shown and described.
