Claims.

This invention relates to a no screed tile clip particularly adapted for use in connection with missions, Asiatic and similar clay tiling and it aims generally to provide a construction which is 5 novel and improved over that disclosed in Letters Patent 2,025,983 issued to me on December 31, 1935.

A particular object is to provide such a clip as may be positioned without the necessity of nailing or other positive attachment to the roof or sheathing, which will effectively grasp the concave tiles and have interengagement with the convex tiles.

The more specific objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawing illustrating an operative embodiment.

In said drawing: Figure 1 is a plan view illustrating a roof fragmentarily, equipped with my improvements;

Figure 2 is a view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure l, and

Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the clips.

Referring specifically to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, roof sheathing is indicated at A.

The tiles are designated being of channel form and identical and having adjacent one end openings H, whereby the improved clip of the present invention may be'attached or a clip of the invention disclosed in my said Patent 2,025,983, may be attached, it being understood that such openings or holes may be provided by punching or otherwise.

The tiles are laid in rows with adjacent ends overlapping in the usual manner and first, spaced apart rows of the tiles are laid as at 12 with the concave faces uppermost, such tiles adjacent one end having openings l4 therethrough whereby nails or other fastenings may be driven through the same into the sheathing A to anchor them. The spaces between the rows of tile l2 and adjacent edges of such rows are covered by rows I3 of the tile which are reversed or arranged with their convex surfaces uppermost.

The tiles are secured together by means of the novel clip 15a, detailed in Figure 3. This clip has a cross member l6 adapted to rest on the sheathing and uprights H arise therefrom from which loops l8 extend rearwardly. The clipis made from resilient wire of suitable gage and the loops i8 function as clasps which removably and frictionally engage the adjacent end portions of the tile of the row l2. The free arms of the loops it as at l9 are extended beyond the other side of the bar It and terminate in hooks 20 which are clipped resiliently into the openings H. In this way, the clips are removably positioned, without the use of positive fastenings and the clips effectively engage all adjacent tile whether disposed with their concave surfaces or convex surfaces uppermost.

Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.

I claim as my invention:-

1. In combination with spaced apart tiles, a clip having means frictionally engaging said tiles and bridging the space between the same, and said means being in detachable engagement with tiles bridging the first mentioned tiles.

2. A clip of the class described having resilient clasp portions to engage spaced apart tiles, and means on said clasp portions to engage a tile bridging the first mentioned tiles.

3. A clip of the class described having a cross portion to rest upon sheathing or the like, clasp elements extending from the cross portion adapted for clasp engagement with adjacent tiles, said portion being extended and provided with hooks for engagement with a tile bridging the first mentioned tiles.

4. A clip of the class described having a cross portion, portions rising therefrom, substantially U-shape clip portions extending rearwardly from the second mentioned portions for clasp engagement with adjacent tiles, said loop portions having extended arms provided with hooks to engage a tile bridging the first mentioned tiles.

5. A clip of the class described having a cross portion, portions rising therefrom, substantially U-shape clip portions extending rearwardly from the second mentioned portions for clasp engagement with adjacent tiles, said loop portions having extended arms provided with hooks to engage a tile bridging the first mentioned tiles, said clip being a single strand of resilient wire.
