Description

Jan. 4, 1938. J. w. BOWMAN 2,104,289
DETAC'HABLE SHOE HEEL PLATE DEVICE Filed July 31, 1957 I iq. 3
INVENTOR,
Jam '8 SW Bowman.
ATTORNEY.
Patented Jan. 4, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
1 Claim.
My invention relates to improvements in detachable shoe heel plate devices and has for an object to provide a shoe heel plate with means for attaching it to a shoe heel for wear on the street and for removing it from the shoe heel before entering the house in order that the shoe heel may be protected from street wear and the house floors may not be injured by using a metal shoe heel plate while walking on them. v
Another object of my invention isto provide a secure and easily operable means for attaching a plate to a shoe heel for removing it therefrom. Another object of my improvement is to provide a simple, inexpensive and durable means for attaching a plate to a shoe heel.
Another object of my invention is to provide a detachable shoe heel plate device composed of few and small parts which when attached to the heel of the shoe detract but little from its otherwise neat appearance.
Other objects of my invention will appear as the description proceeds.
I attain these and other objects of my invention with the device illustrated in the accompanying sheet of drawings, which forms a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of my detachable shoe heel plate, Fig. 2 is a front elevation of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a side elevation' of Fig. 1, Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a fragmentary portion of a shoe with my detachable shoe heel plate in operative position thereon, and
Fig. 5 is a bottom plan view of Fig. 4.
Similar characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
35 -With more particular reference to designated parts: A band of thin sheet steel 6 embraces the rear and sides of the lower part of the shoe heel B and has the hinge eye I on one end and the catch 8 on the other end thereof. From the lower edge of the middle of the band 6, at the rear of the heel, the metal is extended at I0 and joins the rear edge of the shoe plate ll. Preferably, the part II] is made to conform to the tapering 5 increased size of the shoe heel B. The parts above referred to are best stamped from a single piece of thin sheet spring steel.
A loop of wire 9 is engaged with the hinge eye 1 at one end and is engageable with the catch'8 at its other end to serve as a latch.
The enlarged bottom end of the shoe heel B is well suited for fastening my detachable shoe heel plate thereon. The band 6 is made to closely fit the heel at the place of its attachment except at its front ends which spread apart slightly in a order that they may be pressed against the sides of the heel when the loop 9 is being engaged or disengaged from the catch 8. The heel plate H is made to almost or quite cover the bottom end of the heel B and completely protect it from abrasion when the wearer is walking out of doors. The normal use of the protected heel in walking will aid in retaining the fastener in place on the shoe heel. 25
Having thus disclosed my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,-
In combination, a plate adapted to bear on the bottom of a shoe heel, a spring metal clamp fastened to the said plate adapted to embrace the rear and sides of the said shoe heel having a hinge eye on one end and a catch on the other end, and a latch pivoted to the said hinge eye and engageable with the said catch to releasably fasten the said clamp and the said plate to the said shoe heel.
