3 Claims.

This invention relates to boxes, and particularly to an improved paper box or carton, the object being to provide a folding structure which will substantially enclose one or more objects when folded and which will also expose the objects when partly folded.

Another object of the invention is to provide a box wherein portions may be folded to present uplper and lower shelves with the'box open at one s1 e.

An additional object, more specifically, is to provide a folding box wherein one side is left principally open with means associated with the body of the box for presenting spaced shelves and with means at one end presenting a hanger.

As shown in Fig. 6, the blank i is formed from paper, pasteboard, or the like of any desired quality. This blank is provided with a section 2 that forms the back of the finished box. From the sides of section 2 extend the side or edge members 3 and 4 of the finished box, while from one end of the back 2 extends a covering member 5 which is divided by creases or weakened lines 3 and l in order that the cover 5 may be arranged as shown in Fig. 5 when in one position or folded to present the hanger formation 5 as shown in Fig. l. The cover member 5 is provided with apertures 3 and 9 designed to be brought into alignment when the cover member is folded as shown in Fig. 1 whereby a nail or other support may be thrust through the aligned apertures for suspending the box on a wall or other article.

Extending from one edge of the side section 3 are integral panels to and H which merge into an outer panel I2. By reason of the various cuts or slits I3, M and 15 there is provided a tongue l6 which is formed with a crease or weakened line ii. The tongue I6 is adapted to be folded along the lines i? and i8 so as to form the pocket l9 as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 in order to provide a more firm support for the bottom of the pocket which is the section 20. An ear tab 21 is pressed out of section 2 and projects below the bottom or section 29 as shown in Fig. 2. The section 22 forms a stiffening and retaining back flange or wall, while the member Iii forms the front wall when the box is ready for use as 5 shown in Fig. 1. The member l forms the front wall of the lower pocket 23 as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. From wall I l extends a section 24 adapted to form the bottom of pocket 23, while from sec: tion 24 extends a flange 25 that forms the back wall of the pocket. The parts of this pocket are held in place by friction and also by the flanges or tabs 23 and 21 which are bent inwardly above bottom 24 as shown in Fig. 3.

' When the blank has been properly folded it will appear as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 so as to readily expose the pockets 22 and 23 whereby anything in these pockets may be readily seen and also grasped for removal. From Fig. 1 it will be noted that the box is completely open on the top and on the face, except for the sections or panels I 0 and 24. When the box is to be shipped the cover member 5 is preferably unfolded and arranged as shown in Fig. 5 so as to protect any articles in the box. When the box is to be placed on a wall or other support the cover member 5 is folded to the position shown in Fig. 1 so as to readily expose the articles carried by pockets 22 and 23. It will be noted that the entire box is made from a single piece of material and is free from adhesive or other securing means, except a layer of adhesive for securing member I2 to member 4. This securing action may take place at the factory or if preferred, the boxes could be shipped flat as shown in Fig. 6 and then adhesive 5 applied when the boxes are set up for use.

I claim:

1. A box formed of paper, pasteboard or similar material comprising a back, a pair of side walls and a pair of folding structures, one independent 40 folding structure extending from one of said side walls being at the bottom of the box and the other intermediate of the height, each of said folding structures including a front wall, a side panel cemented to the other of said side walls, a bottom and a back wall frictionally engaging the back wall of the box, and a tab extending from the back wall of the box for supporting the bottom of the intermediate folding structure.

2. A box formed from a blank having a back section merging into a cover section, the cover section having a pair of creased lines and a pair of apertures whereby when the cover section is folded along one of said lines the apertures will be aligned and when folded along the other line the cover section will act in a covering capacity, and a pair of side members for said back section, one of said side members merging into a pair of spaced front members, each of the front mem- 5 bers having foldable extensions which when folded present a pocket in connection with its particular front member.
