ICFETERS. PIOTO-LrI'HOGRAPNER, WASHINGTON, u c
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE...
HOMER T. GATES, OF HARTFORD, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR AND GATE PULLEYS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 209,966, dated November 19, 1878; application filed July 23, 1878.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, H. T. GATES, of Hartford, in the county of Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door and Gate Pulleys; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a View, in perspective, of my improvement in door and gate pulleys. Fig. 2 is an elevation of a gate-post and gate, illustratin g the application of the invention.
This invention has relation to door and gate pulleys; and it consists in the improvement in the construction of the same, hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the invention.
The plate or casting A has a screw, B, for securing the device to the gate-post O or doorframe, and is further provided with the diverging arms D and E, the latter being the longer of the two. The arm D is provided with a horizontal bearing or journal, F, which receives a vertical pulley, G, and the arm E has a vertical journal, H, which carries a horizontal pulley, I. A cord or chain, J, is attached to the inner side of the gate, and is first passed around the horizontal pulley I, and then over the vertical pulley G. A weight, K, is connected to the lower end of the cord. The screw is driven into the post in order to permit the weight to shut the gate or door and hold it. The journals H and Fare secured to their respective arms, and washers L are placed between the heads of the journals and thewheels or pulleys.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The plate or casting A, having the diverging arms D E, provided, respectively, with bearings for a vertical and a horizontal pulley, G I, the plate A being provided with a screw, B, and the whole arranged and operating substantially as herein set forth, for the purpose shown and specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HOMER T. GATES.
Witnesses HUGH C. WILLIAMSON, ARTHUR TRIBLY.
