Description
Nov. v16, 1937.
G. TONIOLO ASHTRAYl Filed Oct. 2, 1936 xl lll/A Inventor Guy T'o n lolo .ZZ/Mn- 'v Attorneys Patented Nov. 16, 1l37 UNTED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in ash trays for table use.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a stationary ash tray which can be secured to a table so that it cannot be removed.
Another important object of the invention is to provide an ash tray which can be locked in place on a table so that the same cannot be stolen.
These and various other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawing:-
Figure 1 represents a top plan View of the tray. Fig. 2 represents a side elevational view of the tray secured to a table top.
Fig. 3 represents a vertical sectional View (enlarged) taken substantially on line 3-3 of Fig. l.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the tray consists of the bowl-like ash receiver 5 provided with inturned concave lip portions 6 for supporting cigarettes.
The central portion of the bottom of the bowl 5 is provided with the upstanding boss 'I over which the casing of a safety match box can be disposed for supporting a safety match box and its contents in an upright position.
The tumbler construction (of any conventional design) is denoted by numeral 20 and operates against the depending pin 2| on the bolt IB, the tubular casing 22 of the lock structure 20 having a key receiving slot 23 at its outer end, the same being disposed through an opening in the side of the shell 9.
The bottom I2 of the shell 9 is provided with a depending shank 24 which extends through a small opening in the table 25, the lower end being threaded to accommodate anut 26.
Obviously, when it is desired to empty the bowl 5, the attendant need only insert his key into the key slot 23 and rotate the same so as to retract the bolt I 6, whereupon the shank I3 is free so that the bowl can be lifted and emptied. 15
Obviously when this device is being employed on a table having a tablecloth, the tablecloth need be provided with a small opening just large enough for. the shank 24 to extend therethrough. Such a small aperture in the cloth will not in any 20 way ruin the same for use on tables where trays of this character are not employed.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specic terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size 25 and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:- 30
In a device of the class described,.a casing of substantially conical form providing a base and having an aperture in the apex portion thereof, a sleeve extending from said aperture into the said casing, a bowl having a spindle extending through said aperture into said sleeve and rotatable therein, said spindle having a shoulder thereon, and said sleeve having a radial aperture opposed to said shoulder, and a locking bolt slid- 40 ably mounted inside the casing to extend through theA aperture in said sleeve and to overlie said shoulder, said bolt being tensioned for movement to overlying positions.
