The instant invention relates to iinishing rims and more particularly to metallic rims for nishing the marginal edges of chair backs or other panels. Y

The primary objects of the present invention are to provide a inishing rim which is in the nature of a modiiicati'on of the nishing rim for chair backs or the like shown and described in United States Letters Patent No. 2,046,649, issued July '7, 1936, to my assignee; Vto provide such a nishing rim which when fixed to a chair back or the like adds to its ornamental appearance; to provide such a nishing rim which is economical in manufacture; and, to provide such a nishing rim which may be readily, conveniently and economically fixed and secured to the marginal edge of a chair back.

An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a fragmentary front elevational view of a chair back or other panel whose marginal edge has been iinished with the ornamental finishing rim;

Figure 2 is a sectional view thereof on line 2 2 of Figure 1;

Figure 3 is likewise a sectional view partly broken away to show the manner in which one length of the finishing rim is secured to the marginal edge of the panel;

Figure 4 is a sectional view on line il-l of Figure 1;

Figure 5 is a sectional View showing the manner in which the rear flange of the ornamental finishing rim is secured to the marginal edge of the panel by pressing the same into engagement therewith; and

Figure 6 is a perspective view'of an element for securing the curled length of the ornamental finishing rim to the panel.

Referring to the drawing in which like parts of the panel and its ornamental finishing rim there shown are designated by the same numerals in the several views, the panel I0, such as a chair back for chairs adapted for instalation in theatres, auditoriums or other public or semipublic places, is here shown as formed of ply wood although it will be understood Vof course that the panel may be otherwise fabricated.

An ornamental iinishing rim for the panel, generally designated I I, and either polished or of dull finish as may be desired, is preferably metallic. This rim has a rear iiange I2 provided with a longitudinal cross-sectionally V- shaped bead I3 along its inner surface adapted to bite into the rear side of the panel I and is further provided with a curled opposite portion I4 whose marginal edge is adapted to contact the front side of the panel, all as best shown in Figures 4 and 5.

A securing element I5, here shown as a disc, is provided with a lug I6 in hooked engagement with the curled portion of the rim and at spaced points along said portion which element is adapted to be pressed into the front side of the panel for retaining the curled portion of the rim therewith and as best shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3.

This Ysecuring element or disc I5, best shown in Figure 6, is preferably provided with an aperture Il for centering the driving tool when the disc is pressed into the face of the panel I0 and preferably at the same time that the rear flange is pressed inwardly against the rear face of the panel from its position shown in Figure to its position shown in Figure 4.

lt will thus be seen that the ornamental nishing rim herein shown and described not only adds to the appearance of the panel to which it is Xed but the rim may be likewise economically manufactured and readily and conveniently secured thereto.

While but one specific embodiment of this invention has been herein shown and described, it will be understood that certain details of the construction shown may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of this invention as defined by the following claims.

I claim:

1. A metallic finishing rim for the marginal edge of a wood panel, said rim having a flanged length provided with a longitudinal cross-sectionally V-Shaped bead along its inner surface adapted to bite into the rear side of the panel and having a curled opposite portion whose marginal edge is adapted to contact the front sidek of the panel, and a metallic securing element having a lug in hooked engagement with the curled portion of the rim adapted to be pressed into the front side of the panel for retaining the curled portion of the rim thereto.

2. A wood panel having a metallic finishing rim secured to the opposite sides of the marginal edge thereof, said rim having a flanged length provided with a longitudinal cross-sectionally V-shaped bead along its inner surface in biting engagement with the rear side of the panel and having a curl-ed opposite portion whose marginal edge is in contact with the front side of the panel, and a securing element having a lug in hooked engagement with the curled portion of the rim inset into the front side of the panel for retaining the curled portion of the rim thereto.
