' 3' Claims. (01. 126-41) This invention relates to broiler mechanisms and has particular IBIS/131011170 mechanism of the type employed in gas cook stoves, such as that disclosed in our co-pending application Serial 5 No. 587,726, filed January 20, 1932, of which this application is a division. While the invention will hereinafter be described as embodied in a gas cook stove, it will readily be appreciated that numerous other features are capable of valuable and. advantageous use in stoves of other character and employing heat otherwise generated as from kerosene, electric units, etc.
A principal object of this invention is the provision of an improved manipulative device for arranging the broiler pan at desired distances from the burners when the drawer or slide is in operative position,the improvement in this connection having regard for the appearance of the drawer and the employment of the same manipulative device for sliding the drawer or slide in or V out of the compartment and for raising or lowering the pan. a r
Numerous other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent as it is better understood from the following description, which, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, illustrates a preferred embodiment thereof.
Referring to the drawing,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the stove embodying our present invention;
Fig. 2 is a partial perspective view showing the broiler slide or drawer in extended position;
Fig. 3 is afragmentary perspective view of the manipulative device for withdrawing the slide or drawer and accomplishing vertical adjustment of the panj p Fig. 4 is a partial front elevation of such device; r 0 Fig. 5 is a section taken across the square end of the adjusting shaft, showing the pendant handle in pan adjusting position; and
Fig. 6 is a partial front elevation of the broiler pan and broiler pan support. 7 4 In the instant embodiment of the invention it is intended that the broiling be accomplished in a broiler compartment I3I, in the top of which is arranged the burner 5I. The material to be cooked is adapted to be adjustably supportedat varying distances from the burner 5I in a slide or drawer. generally depicted in Fig. 2. This slide ordrawer comprises a vertical front wall I32 adapted to close the opening into the broiler compartment and permanently connected to a 55 frame work or a skeleton structure which slides the shaft.
into and out of the broiler compartment. This skeleton structure comprises side rails I33 connected at their front ends to the front wall I32 and at their rear ends to aback cross member I34. 5 Two rock bars or rods I35 having bearing at the front in the wall I32 and at the rear in a bearing casting I36 are secured to the rear cross member I34. Each of the rods I35 is provided with an upwardly extending arm I3'I at the 10 front and at the rear, the two arms at the front and in the back being pivotally connected at I38 to a cross member I39. Upon the two cross members I39 thus provided the broiler pan MI is adapted to be arranged. One of the arms 13! 15 at each end of the slide or drawer is connected to a link I42 in turn connected by pins I49 arranged through a slot I43 in the companion member I39. The dimension and arrangement of the parts are such that the pins I move sub- 20 stantially vertically as the arms I3I are rocked to adjust the height of the broiler pan. These pins engage appropriately arranged notches I44 in the flanges I45 formed at the ends of the broiler pan and serve to confine the-broiler pan 25 to substantially a straight vertical movement in the adjustment.
ends of the bars I39 to facilitate movement of the bars with respect to the broiler pan. left hand rod I35 is provided with a third arm I4I,- arranged in or behind the front wall I32 of the broiler drawer or slide, and a spring I48 is provided to counter balance the movement of the pan. v 35 A shaft I5I' is arranged throughan escutcheon bearing I52 mounted on the front of the drawer or slide and this shaft is provided at its inner end with a fixed laterally extending arm I53, having a pin I54 arranged through a slot I55 inthe up- 40 per end of the arm I41. The end of the shaft I5I extends through the escutcheon bearing I52 and is formed-of rectangular cross section outwardly or forwardly of the bearing, as indicated at I56. The rectangular portion of the shaft is tapered 4 as illustrated and is bent at I51 rearwardly to a T stop I58. A pendant handle I59 having a rectangular eye I6I is arranged upon the end of The dimensions of the eye I6I and the rectangular portion I56 of the shaft -I5I are such that the handle may be fitted to the shaft rod to turn it by rotation of the handle in ahorizontal plane to raise and lower the broiler pan, as will be readily understood.
The handle I59 may also be grasped and pulled Rollers I46 are or maybe provided upon th\ The 30 forwardly or swung to a position to pull the slide or drawer out from the broiler compartment. It will be apparent that in every position of the broiler pan the handle I59 will hang downwardly as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing. A similar handle I62 is provided on the oven door.
It is thought that the invention and many of its attendant advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and it will be apparent that various changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention or sacrificing all of its materialadvantages, the form hereinbefore described being merely a preferred embodiment thereof.
We claim:
1. In a stove, a broiler slide having vertically adjustable means for supporting a broiler pan, a device arranged at the front of the slide for withdrawing the slide and operating the means for adjusting the broiler pan, said device including a rotatable shaft and a pendant handle, said handle being engageable with said shaft and rotatable in one plane to operate saidvertically adjustable means, and being rotatable in a different plane to a position in substantial axial alinement with said shaft to withdraw the slide.
2. In a stove, a broiler pan, and means for supporting said pan and for moving it vertically, said means normally tending to shift said pan laterally and including a member for preventing such lateral shifting of said broiler pan during the vertical movement thereof, comprising a lever having a pin and slot connection with said'broiler pan.
3. In a stove, a shaft rotatably mounted therein and having a tapered, rectangular portion at the forward end thereof, bent rearwardly and terminating in a stop member, and a pendant handle mounted on said shaft and having 2. rectangular eye normally engaging the shaft adjacent said stop member and hanging downwardly therefrom, and adapted to engage the base part of said tapered rectangular portion to rotate said shaft.
