Description
Patented ct. 5., 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to game apparatus, an object of the invention being to provide a game apparatus in the form of a card which is provided with exposed numerals designating spaces and letters in said spaces normally covered by removable sections or tabs so that the possessor of the card may readily remove the removable sections to expose the letters, all of which will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing- Fig. 1 is a plan view of my improved card with the upper right corner of the covering sheet broken away to expose the base sheet below, and one of the removable sections or covering tabs removed to expose a letter in one of the spaces of the base sheet;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the base sheet;
Fig. 3 is an exaggerated view in transverse section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is an exaggerated fragmentary view in section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
My improved game apparatus constitutes a card comprising a base sheet I and a covering sheet II secured thereover by any suitable adhesive. These sheets are preferably of the same general dimensions and are of any desired thickness and of any suitable material.
The base sheet I is divided by longitudinal lines I2 and transverse lines I 3 into a plurality of spaces I4. In the center of each space I 4 a letter I5 is provided, andin the upper righthand corner of each space a numeral I6 is provided. The covering sheet II is formed with a plurality of parallel slots Il exposing the numerals I6 of all of the spaces I4, and in addition to the slots I'l the covering sheet I I is formed with a slit I8 parallel to and spaced from the extreme left-hand slot Il a distance equal to that between the pairs of slots, thus defining between the slots and slit a series of covering strips I9 which cover the numerals I5 of the sheet Ill. These strips I9 are formed with perforated or other weakened lines 2B, and the spaces between said weakened lines 20, which cover the letters I5 of the spaces I4, are not secured to the base sheet I0. In other words, these sections between the weakened lines 20 constitute tabs 2I which are readily removable by the insertion of the finger nail or a suitable tool under them. All other parts of the covering sheet I I are secured to the base sheet I0 by suitable adhesive indicated by the reference character 22, and the covering sheet is preferably formed with suitable captioned lines 23 for the date, name, and address of the possessor of the card.
While, of course, my invention is not limited to any particular use it is primarily used in connection with a scheme of radio broadcasting and may be utilized to advertise any desired product. In this scheme the cards are distributed to the public, and it is to be understood that the cards will contain different arrangements of letters in the several spaces. The radio announcer gives certain numerals and the possessor of the card listening in tears off the removable tabs 2l of the spaces designated by the numerals. called off by the announcer. After the broadcast is finished, the possessor of the card examines the letters which have been exposed and if these letters, or any combination of them, can be utilized to spell out a designated word, then the possessor of the card sends it in to the broadcasting station or to the advertiser and receives some reward. As, for example, if the word Wordo is the desired word, the letters exposed must be W OR D O, although, of course, there may be many other letters exposed, but, in any event these five letters must be exposed to spell out the word. Of course any other word, or combination of words, might be utilized.
While I have illustrated and described what I believe to be the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that various slight changes may be made with regard to the form and arrangement of parts without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the claims.
I claim:
1. A game apparatus including a card comprising a base sheet and a covering sheet secured thereon, said base sheet having a plurality of spaces, each space containing a letter and a numeral, said covering sheet having slots therein exposing the numerals and having strips between the slots covering the letters, and said strips having weakened lines defining removable tabs which normally cover the letters.
2. A game apparatus including a card comprising a base sheet and a covering sheet secured thereon, said base sheet having a plurality of spaces, each space containing a letter and a numeral, said covering sheet having slots therein exposing the numerals and having strips between the slots covering the letters, and said strips having weakened lines dening removable tabs which normally cover the letters, said strips between the tabs secured to the base sheet and said strips at said tabs being unattached to the base sheet.
