This invention relates to a lifting chain block and it generally aims to provide a hand crank in the nature of an attachment to the sheave Wheel thereof.
When a lifting chain block is used in a horizontal position, the hand operable chain is inclined to tangle in the absence of sufiicient load or conditions to keep such chain taut. My improved hand crank attachment is especially useful to overcome the disadvantages mentioned, although it is not necessarily limited to use when device is used in a horizontal position. The crank attachment enables the length of the hoist chain to be changed. In cases where the load is sufficiently light, the hand chain may be removed from the groove of the sheave leaving the hand chain guide in place and turning the sheave with the handle till the load is heavy enough for the use of the more convenient hand chain. It is also an object toprovide a structure wherein the hand crank is normally upheld against the sheave in a non-interfering position.
The more specific objects and advantages will become apparent from the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawing illustrating an operative embodiment.

Figure 3 is a detailed diametric sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring specifically to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like or corresponding parts, Figure 1 shows generally a lifting chain block construction of conventional type having drum means at H), at one end of which a sheave pulley II is disposed for operation by an endless hand chain l2 trained thereover, and which means l operates a conventional hoisting chain or the like l3. A guide for said hand chain is shown at 9.
In accordance with my invention, a hand crank attachment at M is fastened to the sheave pulley II. This attachment comprises a hand attaching plate I5 detachably screwed or bolted as at l5 against one side of the pulley at a depressed Web portion I6 thereof. Pivoted to the plate M as at H is a. hand crank I8. Such crank l8 may be disposed in an operative position parallel with the longitudinal axis of the pulley as shown in Figure 3, so that it may be operated as a crank in turning the pulley ll. Such crank is particularly useful when operated in a horizontal position to overcome the objections previously mentioned.
When the crank is not in use,it is preferably compactly folded against the pulley H as shown by dotted line in Figure 3, in which position it is really simply held as a frictional engagement of a spring finger I9 therewith.
Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim as my invention:
A chain block pulley device having a sheave pulley, said pulley having a web, a rim on said web extending beyond opposite sides thereof, an endless operating chain trained over said rim, a hub extending laterally beyond one side of said web and beyond said rim, a plate secured to said web between the rim and hub and on the same side of the web as said hub, a crank member pivotally connected to said plate on an axis parallel to said web for movement substantially diametrically of the pulley, said mounting of the crank enabling compact folding thereof against the pulley inwardly of the outer end of the hub, and means on said hub to releasably hold the crank at an angle to said web in folded position.
