1 Claim.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in attachments for firearms.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide alight attachment for firearms such as pistols, rifles and for all other firearms with proper attachments.
Another important object of the invention is to provide alight attachment for firearms which can be used either for sports or for personal protection, the same being provided with means whereby a beam of light will be thrown having a bright light bulls eye center which when properly placed on the part of the object to be shot at will represent the point at which the bullet will penetrate. Figure 1 represents a side elevational view of a pistol with the light attached.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 represents a fragmentary end elevational view of the attachment.
Figure 4 represents a sectional view taken substantially on line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken substantially on line 5--5 of Figure 6.
Figure 6 represents a longitudinal sectional view through the light.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the light includes a cylindrical casing 5 having a rearwardly tapering back wall 6 merging with a rearwardly extending barrel 1. This rearwardly extending barrel 1 has a sleeve 8 therein in which the dielectric plug 9 is disposed. The sleeve 8 is provided at its forward end with a circumferentially disposed inturned flange ID to serve as an abutment for the disk I l. The plug 9 is provided with a pocket [2 and between the inner wall of this pocket and the disk II is interposed the coiled compressible spring l3. Extending through the disk II and attached therewith is the elongated stem l4 one end of which contacts the contact l5 on the base I6 of the light ll when it is properly located in the threaded socket portion 18 of the barrel 1. The rear end of the stem M is slidable in the socket l9 which is embedded in the plug 9 and has the binding post 20 projecting rearwardly therefrom.
The forward portion of the shell 5 is bent inwardly as at 2| to retain the lens 22 in place. Adjacent this end of the shell 5 is a band 23 which extends around the same and provided with the upstanding ears 2424 through which set screws 25extend to permit lateral adjustmentof the shell. These set screws can be driven against the barrel 26 of the pistol generally referred to by numeral 21 for assisting in holding the light in place and principally to set and hold the light in proper focus. The second band 28 encompasses the shell 5 and also the barrel 26, the portions of the band between the barrel 26 and the shell 5 being connected by a bolt 29 which can be adjusted so as to draw the portions of the band together thus holding the shell in snug position with respect tothe barrel.
It can thus be seen that when the pistol switch 30 which is suitably connected with a battery in the operators pocket is actuated the light beam 3| will be projected and due to the specific construction of the lens 22 and the relationship of the lens with respect to the bulb I! a brilliant center beam will be projected which on the target or object represents the bulls eye.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described the invention, what we claim as new is:
A light attachment for firearms comprising a shell having a lens, a bulb in the shell, a clamp band on the shell adapted to encase a gun barrel to retain the shell thereto, a second clamp band on the shell provided with upstanding ears between which the barrel of a gun can be disposed, and set screws on the ears feedable in opposed relation for engaging opposite sides of a gun barrel whereby lateral adjustment of the shell can be made.
